Tufts University/Naropa University (Creative Writing)
Hello, my name is Ian. I am currently a student at Naropa University in Boulder, working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing. I have an immeasurable passion for writing, reading, and the arts. In high school I started up a middle school tutoring program through the National Honor Society, and I have always taken found a love in learning from the act of teaching. Throughout my years at Tufts, I often helped my peers with Calculus classes and proofreading technical/research essays, lab reports, and creative writing pieces, and this seemed fulfilling for both my peers and myself.
Currently, I'm dreaming of stimulating challenges and quality conversations with students who are self-motivated and have a strong desire to progress as students and as free-thinking human beings. Ideally, I would help a student who wanted to improve his or her writing voice, or needed someone to help brainstorm theses for that boggling English essay, but I feel equally qualified and willing to help all ages of students improve their understandings of mathematical concepts that don't come quite as naturally as they might with a little boost.
I scored nearly perfect in both ACT and SAT math sections in 2012, and I recently (2014) tutored my sister improve her ACT score in Math, which was her lowest section. I feel confident I could help any student raise their scores, as the test still feels fresh in my mind.
I have been labelled as a strong writer since elementary school by my teachers, achieving A's in most honors/AP English classes, as well as within my creative writing/English classes at University. Additionally, I scored nearly perfect in the ACT's English section. As I mentioned above: I have a deep love for reading and writing and I am in a Creative Writing program at Naropa; I have absolute confidence that I would help a student brainstorm and formulate ideas for essays or creative pieces, and improve their overall ability and control as a writer.
Don't be shy! Yes, I am new to this website and I have minimal teaching and tutoring experience, but don't let that discourage you: we are all beginners in almost every imaginable way.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
