About Matt

I'm an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher of mathematical concepts to students of all levels. I hold a B.S. in Mathematics, an MBA in Finance, and a PhD in Research Methods & Statistics, with emphasis in Finance. I've helped tutor a number of students before I found Wyzant.com and can provide references when needed. If you need help making math or statistics make sense, look no further.

I've tutored students in Elementary School math, GMAT prep, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Calculus, and Statistics. If you need test prep for the ACT, SAT, GRE, or GED I can help with that too. My previous students have complimented me on my patience and ability to explain concepts clearly. Not only will you know how to get the right answer, you will know why it's right.

I prefer to meet in a public location for the first lessons,
or at the parent's home for younger students.
This is to provide a safe and comfortable environment to learn in.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, and have tutored both the ACT math section and the underlying subjects to numerous students. My method of tutoring is both math and test-oriented, assisting the student with the subject matter and test taking strategy to ensure the highest possible score. My last student improved from 21 to 28 in Math over the course of 6 months.

Algebra 1

I have tutored several middle school and high school students successfully in Algebra 1. My background in Mathematics and experience with different learning styles allows me to help students understand the principles by applying it to their area of interest. By connecting the material to their experience, theoretical concepts are easier for them to grasp. I am also experienced in error diagnosis, to find the specific area of difficulty in a concept and draw that out for the student, so we can work on the root of any difficulty.

Algebra 2

I have tutored several high school and college students successfully in Algebra 2. Fantastic

Matt was REALLY GOOD. I had been using someone else throughout the semester and seriously wish I would have been with Matt all along. Very prepared, knowledgeable, patient, and, explanatory. He helped with doctorate level biostatistics based in epidemiology and SPSS software.
