My name is Alizay and I would love to be your tutor! I believe that a quality education is the key to a successful life, achieving a livable wage, and improving the community for future generations. It's my pleasure to work one-on-one with you to diagnose areas of weakness and work toward mastery of key skills. I honor the experiences and knowledge that my students bring to class so that I can build a curriculum to fit your particular needs. Please communicate with me about your goals for tutoring sessions, and your perceived strengths and weaknesses as a student. We all have assets! It's my job to find out yours and build on that so you can experience success!
I have a Bachelor's degree in English and Teaching from the University of Findlay, a small, private liberal arts college where I received a high quality education in Language Arts. I've spent the last 11 years teaching English in a variety of contexts in the public school system. I have worked with all types of learners from middle grades through adult education, including adults learning to read for the very first time. My primary focus has been on middle grades and high school aged learners. Further, over 60% of my students speak English as their second language, so I am well versed in how to make reading and language accessible for language learners. I also delight in teaching the writing process with students so that they can compose thoughtful, purposeful writing.
My preferred method of tutoring includes an informational session where I will gather your interests, skills, and goals. I want to push you toward mastery by starting where you are and offering building blocks with much repetition, learning style variety, and fun. I work well with all ages of learners, so please email me today so I can help you reach your goals! Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
