Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (Drawing)
My Name is Jillian and art and teaching are two huge passions of mine! I didn't choose to be in the field I was born into this. I have been drawing, painting, and ogling art since before I can remember. As of now, I am a graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, with a BFA in drawing. Since I have graduated from MIAD my life has been dedicated to the arts. Whether it is time spent in the studio, attending and being part of gallery shows, volunteering in the community or teaching others - art is where my time is spent.
I have a strong knowledge of several mediums including drawing, painting, and sculpture. I love technical ideas such as space, value, light, line, color, and composition. While technical skills are important and emphasized in my teaching I do believe strongly in individuality. You gotta be you- that's what makes art yours and truly unique. My teaching style is based on a combination in finding what interests you, but also challenging you to think outside the box.
I emphasize on drawing and painting from "life" we would never be copying pictures out of a magazine! I know exactly what you need to get into college and how to build a good portfolio for a high school level student! I didn't graduate long ago and can really help you get into your favorite school and even get a scholarship. EXAMPLE: When I first had my portfolio reviewed at my favorite school I was turned down - not because I wasn't good but I didn't have what they wanted to see - after taking classes and drawing from life I applied and got a 1/3 scholarship that only 10 students receive. I am proud of this and what I have achieved I know a lot of people in the Denver art world and would love to make you a part of it!
I am open to answer any questions and give you specific lesson plans that we would work on please feel free to contact me!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
