THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN (Applied Mathematics)
Virginia Tech (Master's)
Hello! My name is David and I am new to the DC area. I have tutored a number of subjects for the last ten years and am looking to continue doing so. I have degrees in Applied Mathematics, Business Management, and Educational Leadership, and this education has given me a number of skills that have helped me to be a successful tutor. Through private tutoring and working at Sylvan/Mathnasium, I have tutored in the following areas: SAT/ACT Prep, Chemistry, Physics, Elementary Math, Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, and History.
I believe I am an exceptional tutor from my patience and my ability to reframe a question or an explanation to present it in a new way for a student. It is important to create multiple pathways to a particular idea for a student, as that is the best way to solidify a lesson. I'd love to help you or your students out, so please let me know if you are interested in setting up an appointment. Hello! My name is David and I am new to the DC area. The rate listed is a base rate but is negotiable to an extent. For longer drives, an increase might be necessary just to cover traveling expenses.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Math has always been a subject I have enjoyed and continued to practice throughout the years. I earned an Applied Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009, and have worked as a tutor for Mathnasium, Sylvan, and through personal appointments for the last ten years. One reason I believe I have been successful over the years is because of my ability to present information in new ways that students can connect with. From elementary math to Calculus, I would enjoy the opportunity to help anyone better understand and excel in mathematics.
I have an Applied Mathematics degree from the University of Texas at Austin and have tutored Algebra 1 for years. It's a tough subject but definitely a foundation that is important for the rest of school and beyond.
Algebra 2 is a fast-paced subject that many people struggle with. There is a lot to take in, between graphs, factoring, and interpreting, but it's definitely doable. I have tutored it for years and practiced many of its skills during my math degree.
I played basketball growing up, was the manager for the school basketball team in high school, and recently started an annual basketball camp for the city of Fulton, MO - Full Velocity Basketball. It is a four week long camp for students aged between 10 and 14 that focuses on basketball basics and fundamentals. Most recently, there were 35 campers with over 10 counselors.
I have worked out for around 10 years and focused on a number of things - strength training, cutting weight, bulking up. I have researched a great deal and created many workout plans for myself and others. I have been a personal trainer in the past, but never certified.
