Hello there! My name is Jeff, and I'm a proud Colorado native and avid learner. I will teach you to better understand your learning style and how to create cognitive tools which will aid you with studying efficacy and comprehension. I aim to give you what you need to succeed without a tutor. I'm highly adaptable and can easily adjust to unique learners, and truly enjoy the challenge!
I excel in many subjects and graduated with a 3.9 GPA from High School and a 3.8 GPA from CU Denver with honors and a degree in psychology. As part of my degree program, I participated in unique internships, one of which focused on the biological and psychological implications of health (or health psychology).
I have tutored on-and-off for over 8 years in Colorado, providing my services to mostly college and high school students. My specialty is writing -- from creative form to business writing -- and I offer an expansive array of writing services to students of all ages. I can help you with organization, thesis development and implementation, paragraph structure, word choice, tone, grammar, syntax, style, flow, research, etc.
I have tutored accounting for over a year, having self-taught intro to accounting to bolster my repertoire. My accounting students have excelled in classes where the average was between 68-75% due to my instruction and ability to adapt to unique learning styles. I am confident that I can help you understand debits and credits, t-accounts, balancing ledgers, understanding assets and liabilities, and the closing process. Intro to accounting is the highest level of instruction I offer.
In addition, I have tutored in k-12 math, reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and science. In college, I tutored in the areas of writing, psychology, neurology, immunology, anatomy, and the like. All of my students have seen marked improvement in their grades after beginning instruction with me.
I will drive to almost any location for an additional fee. Appointments must be cancelled 24 hours beforehand (or rescheduled within that time) to avoid payment. I am professional, respectful, and I work well with all ages and demographics.
I look forward to working with your and meeting your individual needs. Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day! Hello there! My name is Jeff, and I'm a proud Colorado native and avid learner. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored Algebra 1 and Pre-Algebra on and off for the past eight years. I have tutored over fifteen high school students through this time-frame, all with immense improvement in their comprehension of core concepts, mechanics, and the like. I am currently working with students facing the most current curriculum, and therefore am capable of teaching modern methods for quadratics, algebra tiles, factoring, plotting, and the like.
I have aided dozens of students in elementary math over the course of several years as a tutor. I am quick to adapt to young learners as they engage and interact with concepts and I am adept at creating creative and intuitive scenarios for children to approach the subject from new angles. I have taught most elementary math subjects: number lines, number theory, graphs, percentages, decimals, fractions, basic geometry and algebraic concepts, etc. Patience and persistence are cornerstone traits I exhibit when working with young learners.
I played piano for over ten years myself. While my technique and playing abilities were mostly self-taught, I was instructed by several teachers over the years in musical theory. In the past I have tutored a few students in piano, but only as beginners.
In high school, I competed in team policy debate, an academic sport which requires copious amounts of public speaking. I placed in finals at multiple events, and I won two spots at nationals two years in a row.
When I graduated high school, I taught speech and debate as an alumni assistant coach, instructing more than twenty high school students simultaneously. I worked with them in every part of speech preparation and delivery - from writing original oratories to interpretive works, I had experience teaching diverse styles. While I taught, I also competed in parliamentary debate at the collegiate level.
My experiences make me a highly qualified public speaking tutor, and I can't wait to offer these abilities to the WyzAnt community!
I believe I have the ability to impart good study skills due to a multiplicity of factors.
First and foremost, I am a good student. I graduated CU Denver with a 3.8 GPA. I have developed study habits myself that have aided me in achieving good grades. I can pass these habits along because I have also taught in multiple settings; I coached high school debate as an alumni, I've tutored for hundreds of hours throughout the past ten years, and I have helped teach classes to home schooled children in local home school communities.
Second, my degree was in psychology, and I have studied the concept of learning in great detail. I know how to utilize skills such as mnemonic devices, memory maps/architecture, and the like. I have also studied relevant research on effective study habits - such as how often to study, when to study, what environment to study in, how to develop self-teaching practices, etc.
Third, and last, I was a competitor in high school for team policy debate and competed at nationals on two occasions. After graduation, I instructed as an alumni assistant coach in an array of speech events and debate styles. The point of this being that debate requires a sharpened ability to pay attention to, and remember, important details from a speaker's presentation, and then adapt to them on the fly. These are quintessential tools for active learning in the classroom, and therefore critical to active studying.
I believe that with these relevant experiences I am able to create a full, well-rounded repertoire of study skills that will aid any student in any subject.
