I am a College Reading and Learning Association certified tutor and I have been tutoring students for over 10 years. I have tutored a wide range of people from those who are just learning to read and write to adults reading and writing at the college level. I have worked with English as a Second Language students as well as students with developmental disabilities. I have taught developmental reading courses and study skill courses at the community college level for 7 years. I also have experience in successfully completing courses at the college level in Biology and Spanish where I can offer my expertise in helping students to succeed in these subjects.
I specialize in helping students with being able to read and follow instructions from teacher handouts, lecture notes and textbooks. I also have helped students learn to use strategies for test preparation, which includes using index cards, software applications, identifying preferred learning techniques and developing time management skills. Most importantly, my job as a tutor is to help students find and use the available information they have so they can learn how to complete the work on their own.
During our first meeting, I will work to identify what goals or learning objectives you want to reach and how I can best help you to reach them. This first consultation meeting is free and you are not obligated to choose me as a tutor if you are not satisfied.
If you cannot make it to a tutoring session, or if you need to cancel the session, you must notify me no less than 3 hours before the session. Otherwise, my hourly tutoring fee will apply.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
