Hello, my name is Eric E. I am a recent graduate of Southern New Hampshire University's online graduate program in English. I look forward to sharing my love of language and literature. I believe that composition is an essential element of growth for every student, not only academically, but personally and professionally, as well. My first love is creative writing. I have published poetry and short fiction in a number of literary journals, and I continue to work on several longer projects.
Written expression has such a liberating and empowering quality for students of any age. Students that grow weary of writing will inevitably struggle in other areas. When students learn to develop their own voice and establish modes of rhetoric, their academic potential grows exponentially. As a tutor, I expect to impart a sense of fearlessness and self-assuredness in students' writing. There are many choices that students make every day in their studies; through writing and learning to love written expression, students will learn to make better choices and feel more empowered inside and outside of the classroom. I have experience teaching secondary school students of various grades with Denver Public Schools, and I have one-on-one tutoring experience with this age group as well. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have recently completed a Master of Arts in English. I also have training in GRE and GMAT test preparation instruction. There are unique strategies that can be employed to successfully complete the English portion of the ACT exam, and I can help train students to overcome their fears and approach each question with confidence.
In addition to extensive undergraduate and graduate work with language and literature, I have experience working as a test preparation instructor for the GRE and GMAT tests. The reading portion of the ACT requires skillful analysis and comprehension, and I can help students develop strategies to approach these sections of the exam.
In addition to a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in English, I completed an undergraduate minor concentration in history. As a graduate student in English literature, my theoretical focus has been on New Historicist readings of texts with an emphasis in American history and literature. I have a voracious appetite for American history and I look forward to helping students approach events and periods with an analytic eye toward the interrelatedness of people, movements, and the consequences of their conflicts.
I have recently completed a master's degree in English and Creative Writing. I have experience studying composition instruction and practicing English instruction with secondary education students with Denver Public Schools.
