About Nazanin

I spent the last two years as a learning coordinator for Colorado State Student Athletes. As a learning coordinator, I was tutoring 6-7 student athletes while also teaching them study skills, time management, and ways to succeed in college. I am now an in-home ESL tutor for a Bhutanese Refugee. Additionally, I spent the summer in Nepal tutoring orphans in science.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a biology degree and a minor in biomedical sciences. I have been accepted to four medical schools. I will begin at CU School of Medicine in August.

With the help of WyzAnt, I've been fortunate enough to tutor students weekly in Chemistry, Algebra, and AP Biology. I am a proactive tutor and take the time to study the materials before my sessions, so I am fully prepared to explain the concepts to my students. I'm confident that I help students excel in their courses because I am able to explain hard concepts in a much simpler format than some teachers. Often in difficult courses, one vital piece of information is standing in the way of a student's understanding of the whole concept.

Teaching is a huge passion of mine, and I am certain that I can help students achieve their goals. I make students feel comfortable, however, I challenge them often. I love learning and I want my students to experience that same passion.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I received a 95% in college genetics. I also had a passage on genetics in my MCAT. Genetics comes easily to me and I know I can teach it well.

MCAT

I took the MCAT in August 2012. I received a 10 in physical sciences, 10 in Verbal, and 11 in Biology. I scored in the 80th percentile for my testing date on my first ever attempt. I spent 3 months studying, completed a Kaplan course, and took 13 practice tests prior to the exam. I was taught that the key to MCAT studying is comprehension, critical thinking, and crisis prevention and I fully believe in that method.

Public Speaking

All student athletes are required to take public speaking to graduate. Consequently, I have 2 years of experience teaching public speaking to my students. I have helped students prepare and deliver policy, persuasive, commemorative, informative, and invitational speeches.

Study Skills

In my previous tutoring job, my biggest goal was to teach students study skills. With my guidance and support, my football student went from a 1.00 GPA in the fall to a 3.00 GPA in the spring. Most students have the skills to excel in school, they just don't know how to study efficiently and effectively.
