In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
First of all, I have been studying chess since I was 5 years old. Second, I have taught chess classes at public schools for 18 years. Third, I have led chess teams to competitions in 2 different states. And fourth, my love of the game tends to inspire others to learn from me.
My first job as a teacher was in an Elementary school in South Georgia. I have experience teaching in Elementary schools for 10 years. My experience teaching is in both Spanish and English. Children typically find me friendly and I am able to instill a love of learning.
Teaching for 18 years in public schools has afforded me opportunities to learn different studying techniques. I have shared this knowledge with many colleagues as well as students. Many of these students have gone on to universities and been successful. I find it gratifying to share these "secrets" with as many people as possible.
I have been swimming since as early as I can remember. Patience is a prerequisite to teach someone how to swim and I have an abundance of patience. I also have access to a year round heated swimming pool at my home.
I have coached track and field events at various public schools from 6th grade to 12th grade. Many students would meet with me on Sunday, with their parents present, in order to receive personal instruction. This led these athletes to improve by leaps and bounds. No pun intended.
