Teaching children is truly a dream come true for me. I attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a BA in English. After a few years in the “real world” I decided my heart was in education and I knew it was time to go back to school and make my dream a reality. I enrolled in Metropolitan State College of Denver’s teacher licensure program in the fall of 2008. While working towards completion of the program, I was fortunate enough to actively participate in various DPS classrooms. My experience with students, ranging from kindergarteners to sixth graders, gave me the tools I needed to create my own successful classroom. I consider myself a life-long learner and continue to to grow and learn how to be a more effective teacher each year. I have been trained in several intervention strategies and I have utilized my skills as a reading interventionist and an elementary teacher over the last eight years. Watching a student grow and have the "ah ha" moment is what I strive for!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have passed the Colorado PLACE test for special education. This allows me to be a special Ed teacher in the state of Colorado. Students with ADD and ADHD work directly with special Ed teachers.
I hold a current teaching license for K-6 in the state of Colorado.
I have taught phonics for the last eight years as an elementary school teacher with Denver Public Schools. I also worked as an intervention teacher specializing in literacy.
