About Tyler

Hello,

I am a young Chess expert and enthusiast with experience tutoring in a variety of subjects. I work with beginning students to develop their skills and understanding, as well as impart an appreciation of this immensely interesting and diverse game.

One of my main priorities is to assure a student's true interest in the game by showing its potential for expression and creativity. I approach the subject of learning Chess in a variety of ways, depending on a student's skill level, interest and strength. However, my defining trait as a Chess tutor is my dedication to developing the intuition and creativity of a student's approach early on. The traditional methods of teaching the basic variety of Opening Game and End Game strategies are often treated as a kind of initiation before moving into further strategy and theory. Though I surely develop these important fundamental strategies, I introduce a variety of lessons and game-play variations alongside these initial foundations in search of the individual student's core weaknesses and affinities. This not only keeps the game exciting and new for beginning students, but also allows a more realistic assessment of the student's understanding of the game, which in turn invites more direct developmental practices.

I also like to encourage students to guide their Chess curriculum based on their confidences and curiosities. A student's interest in particular aspects of the game is an important expression of potential style and skill. By introducing lessons and game-play variations conducive to the student's interests while continuing to build fundamentals, his/her overall attention to the game is enriched alongside their proficiencies in the aspects they enjoy.

My role in Chess teaching is with beginning players. After a fundamental knowledge of the game is understood, the rest comes from playing routinely and memorizing strategies. I like to leave this advanced stage to the literature of Chess thinkers and the natural betterment that comes with regular play. But with my unique principles of creativity and intuition, a beginning player moves on to these advanced stages with an inherent ability to enliven fundamental game-play and a better appreciation of the nuances of advanced strategy.

I work perfectly with any age and with any kind of person. The more unique, the better!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
