About Kenneth

Greetings! My name is Kenneth, and I am 30 years old. Currently, I am licensed by the state of Colorado to teach elementary education, grades K through 6, and substitute teach in grades K through 12. I have worked at the university level and tutored at the middle school level. I have also worked in numerous elementary, middle, and secondary schools including volunteering my time in after school programs. I have published books on different elementary academics and have almost 5 years of experience in education in the classroom with a wide variety of subjects. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. ADD/ADHD

This category of special education is a cognitive disorder associated with a student's inability to focus on gross-motor skill tasks and other learning skills. ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder whereas ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder with a focus on Hyperactivity. My educational background includes taking a foundations of special education class, a survey class of special education disabilities, and other classes discussing assessment and transition of multiple disabilities. My work experience includes my student teaching with students who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD as well as tutoring students with ADD/ADHD. Additionally, I have substitute taught for close to five years and have worked with multiple studies with similar diagnoses.

CBEST

CBEST is a teacher's assessment based in California, which stands for California Basic Educator's Skills Test. It is a 100-multiple choice question test: 50 reading comprehension, 50 elementary mathematics, and 2 essay questions (1 persuasive and 1 expository). My educational experience involves personally taking the test and studying the material within an elementary education program. My work experience involves teaching multiple workshops on successful passage of this assessment over a 2 year period.

Elementary (K-6th)

This field includes subjects such as mathematics, reading, spelling, social science, science, performing and visual arts, health, and physical education. All of which I am certified to teach through my elementary education teaching credential.

Elementary Math

Elementary mathematics is broken into five categories: Counting, Algebra/Functions, Geometry and Measurements, Statistics and Probability, and Mathematical Reasoning. Each of these skills with boost your student's understanding of mathematics and help them move forward in their academics.

ESL/ESOL

I have taken teacher education courses in teaching students English as a Second Language. I'm familiar with all the theories and concepts behind helping students succeed in learning the English Language.

Handwriting

Handwriting is a language arts subject that focuses on the different letter formations in both print and cursive style. My teaching methods regarding this subject includes tracing the letters with kinesthetic strategies, using worksheets to see letter outlines, and working with the alphabetic principle to help learn handwriting. My work experience includes student teaching this subject for over 16 weeks to a class of fourth grade students as well as completing handwriting lessons as a substitute teacher with other grade levels. My educational experience including a reading and writing methods class that I took as part of an elementary education teacher program.

Reading

My educational background in reading includes a reading methods class, a foundations in education class, and a social studies/reading methods class from an elementary education teaching program. Also, I have taken multiple language classes that focus on reading strategies. My work experience is close to five years as a substitute teacher as well as student teaching both elementary reading and ESL classes.

Speech

This subject contains the ability to demonstrate proficiency with communication within different parameters such as large groups, one-on-one as well as understanding the audience, using appropriate vernacular to communicate a thesis point. This subject also contains being able to understand the do's and don'ts of what to say in different situations. This skill set helps students to become more proficient in different social scenarios such as job interviews and theatrical performances.

Spelling

This subject includes being able to use multiple spelling rules to accurately judge and determine spelling patterns in words. I can use multiple reading strategies to help your student become proficient in spelling and reading.

Study Skills

My educational background on this includes studying teacher education and different study skills for different academic domains. Also, I took classes in differentiated instruction as part of a special education credentialing program. Thirdly, my experience in teaching is over 4 years of being in the classroom and I taught a class on study skills success on teacher credentialing assessments. Lastly, I worked as a mathematics tutor for middle school students to boost up and learn strategies for retaining mathematics.

Writing

Writing includes various writing methods and styles such a Turabian, APA, MLA, Chicago, etc. This also analyzes sentence structure as well as sentence input and omission questions. Lastly, this subject includes understanding different elementary writing topics and genres such as persuasive, expository, and biographical.
