Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I currently hold a Special Education Generalist Professional Teaching license. To obtain the license, I competed an approved Special Education program. From the CDE website, it states the program and license requirements include: The major medical and educational characteristics and identification of various exceptionalities (emotional and behavioral disorders, deaf and hard of hearing, visual impairment, learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, physical and other health disabilities, ADD, and ADHD, communication disorders, multiple disabilities, twice exceptional, and gifted/talented).

Autism

I currently hold a Special Education Generalist Professional Teaching license. I am also a graduate student at UNC,for the Special Education Intervention Specialist program. I completed the Strategies for Students with Autism class: "This course provides a historical perspective and an overview of assessment, planning and instructional strategies for working with students on the autism spectrum as well as students with significant support needs in K-12 settings."

Career Development

As a Special Education teacher, I administer assessments on career development and review their responses. I have worked in the area of career development for several years and taught Life Skills classes. The population I primarily work with are high school students, most currently in the detention setting, and transitions are part of the job duties I perform.

Dyslexia

I currently hold a Special Education Generalist Professional Teaching license. Part of the coursework for that license included specific learning disabilities, reading intervention, and (from the CDE website) "Diagnosis of reading difficulties; specific reading disabilities • Dyslexia, overview of underlying theories."

I currently teach students with specific learning disabilities, including dyslexia.

Social Studies

I am highly qualified in Social Studies. I have taught both middle and high school students with focus on US History, Government, Economics, World History and Geography.

Special Needs

I hold a professional license in Special Education, ages 5-21. I have taught Special Education students for nine years, specifically those with SIED, SLD, ELL students, struggling readers, writers and math learners.. I have worked with teachers on curricular modifications and differentiated instruction.
