I am graduate student who has been tutoring for 8 years. I am working toward my PhD in biophysics, which requires that I have a solid understanding of biology, biochemistry, physics and calculus. I am currently a teaching assistant in the Chemistry Department at the University of Denver.
I encourage my students to keep trying and use their mistakes as a starting point for teaching. Examples from other textbooks are often employed to solidify key concepts. Your student's success is my goal. I tutor struggling students who need a passing grade and I have helped already successful students excel. I have experience working with all types of students including those with a range of learning disabilities such as dyslexia and text anxiety. I understand that every student is different and will work to tailor my teaching to your student's needs. I am graduate student who has been tutoring for 8 years. Emily has done a great job with my daughter for her AP Chemistry class. My daughter's exam grade has gone up to a solid A in just 4 lessons!! My daughter likes Emily's method of teaching - she explains the concepts first and provides a lot of practice problems to reinforce what she just taught. I would highly recommend her for chemistry lessons.
Emily has been a wonderful person to work with. She is always punctual and quick to respond to emails and easy to reach by phone. My daughter has had health issues and has missed a lot of school and Emily has been a godsend in helping her to get caught up. She was even willing to drive to my daughter's school and meet with her Chemistry teacher in order to implement a plan to help her through the rest of the semester. Emily is bright and stays on task and my daughter loves working with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
