Hello everyone,

My name is Kat R. and I have been tutoring a variety of academic subjects since 2012. I believe that tutoring is not only about helping people of all ages to better understand the subject matter but also to embed the skills to solve problems and learn decoding strategies in order to understand the content on their own.

Hello everyone,

My name is Kat R. and I have been tutoring a variety of academic subjects since 2012. I believe that tutoring is not only about helping people of all ages to better understand the subject matter but also to embed the skills to solve problems and learn decoding strategies in order to understand the content on their own.

I graduated from Eckerd College in 2015 with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Anthropology, and have my Master of Arts in Global Sustainability and Climate Change from the School for International Training. Since 2012, I have found myself immersed in the educational field, working for a diversity of organizations. I began my career as a private tutor with Wyzant in 2012, where I tutored several students and later worked as a private full-time Algebra II and Chemistry tutor. From early 2013 until late 2014, I worked as an AVID tutor for Hillsborough and Pinellas county public schools, including both Title I and non-Title I. During the summer of 2014 and 2016, I worked as a teacher-in-training at Hathaway-Brown's Aspire program, teaching both Environmental Science and STEM for 7th and 9th grade girls, respectively. After I graduated with my Bachelors, I became an outreach instructor for the Tampa Museum of Science and Industry and as an environmental educator and facilitator for Pathfinder Outdoor Adventure Education.

In September 2015, I moved abroad to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to obtain a TESOL certification and later moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to become an English Language Instructor for ILA. I taught English in both private and public schools within the city. In May 2016, I moved back to the U.S. and worked as a Regional Site Coordinator for Reading Partners DC. I frequently worked directly with students, typically tutoring K-4th graders in fluency and decoding strategies.

From 2017-2018, I furthered my career as Academy Prep St. Petersburg's 5th/6th grade science teacher. My students learned lessons ranging throughout the earth and space sciences. My model of teaching is mainly experiential and facilitative by nature, and I was regarded for my creativity in lesson structure and curriculum development.

Because I am a lifelong learner and educator, I would love to continue tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds in math, natural science, and/or reading.

My availability is listed on my page, and feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you!

Drawing

I have been illustrating since I was in elementary school. I pursued a passion in 2-D art in mixed media, specifically drawing when I entered high school. I took Advanced Placement art during my senior year of high school, where I won the Most Artistic Senior Notable for my class. I completed a concentration consistent of 12 pieces, which I used for my application to the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida - I was accepted in the Fall of 2009.

I was a private, permanent tutor for a high school student for a year and a half in mainly Algebra 2. During that time, I've become very familiar with the textbook lessons in the high school curriculum. Teacher training over the past few summers has allowed me to develop individualized tutoring sessions that are creative and contextual.

I have an associates degree in Biology and continued to take Biological science courses in my bachelors coursework. I also worked in a microbiology lab during undergrad, where I prepared materials for lessons and practicals.
