I'm a life-long learner who combines the critical thinking and diverse approaches of a liberal arts student with the precision and detail of a math and science background. I have a unique ability to adapt lessons on the fly to a variety of learning styles, focusing on whatever is working for each student.
As a high school student, I went through the International Baccalaureate program at Littleton High School (I was in the inaugural class of the program there). Since then, I graduated from the University of Denver with majors in both International Studies and Religious Studies. During my time there, I helped start a business based on enabling colleges and universities to better meet student needs while simultaneously facing their own financial realities. I'm currently pursuing a law degree and tutoring a diverse array of subjects for undergraduates and high school students.
One particular area of interest is taking students for whom math never really "worked" and helping them achieve to the best of their abilities on the state-wide Accuplacer exam and then thriving in the (often intimidating) collegiate math and science environments. However, I am open to almost any opportunity if it matches my skill and knowledge set. Jonathan is very patient and explains things pretty well. He is having to teach a little more than just tutor and is very good at it. I appreciate his time and knowledge.
Once again WyzAnt has set me up with a great tutor. My need was a pretty general one, and I will, if possible, get with Jonathan as the need(s) arise regarding my computer issues. Seems like we worked out some of the easy (for some people) kinks and he understood the narrowness of some of it and the broader aspects.
Very patient and explains things very well. Communication about when we are meeting is very poor. Didn't contact me any more after we we agreed to make plans last week. I phoned and texted several times and he never reached out to me. Very disappointed.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
One of my undergraduate majors was in Religious Studies at the University of Denver. My coursework included extensive review of comparative religions and exposed me to a survey of both word religions and methodologies used to study and understand them. I also spent a good deal of time learning about the history and inner workings of both normative Judaism and its mystical branches, both historical and current.
