I have a natural teaching talent. I don't just open my mouth and give instruction. Rather, I listen in order to determine where the student is. Then I work to bring the student from that point to where he or she needs to be, one step at a time. I'm very logical, and I'm good at explaining things. I'm open to questions at any time. My goal is the understanding of the student. I tutor all ages and all levels. I specialize in teaching gifted students. I can help with various subjects, including English, ESL, Spanish, math, GED, citizenship, history, social studies, reading, writing, and Macintosh computer operation. I also counsel students on how to study, how to learn, how to take tests. I can tutor any subject that just requires reading and understanding and learning. An example of this would be history or philosophy or any other similar subject taught in school. I specialize in teaching math to people who have trouble with math. I have superior knowledge of English and can help with grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation, reading, and writing. The student is always in control of the equipment when I teach computer lessons. My hands are not on the keyboard or the mouse. This is the only way that a person can learn to do things on the computer. I get along well with students of all ages, including adults. I treat everyone as an equal; I don't talk down to anyone, including children.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored elementary children in the Denver Public Schools system through a tutoring company. I tutored students in Grades 1 through 6. I tutored math and reading mostly. I am good at organizing information and explaining it to elementary students (as well as students in higher grades and adult students of all ages). I look at the information in their textbooks from their point of view. I intuitively understand things that might be confusing to them, and I explain those things to them. Children are always free to ask me anything at any time, and I will explain whatever they don’t understand. I have good methods for teaching math and reading. Most elementary subjects are just a matter of reading and understanding what one reads. So the most important subjects in elementary school are math and reading, along with developing study skills, at which I also excel.
I have taught ESL classes for Jefferson County Schools and for a nonprofit. In addition, I conduct my own private classes. I specialize in teaching Spanish speakers. With my degree in Spanish linguistics, I am uniquely qualified to explain the differences between Spanish and English. I am available to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of English to those who are learning English as a second language. My knowledge of the English language is at the highest level, and I teach English to English speakers as well.
I have been using the Macintosh for several years, and I love my computer. I use it for just about everything. I love learning new things on my computer, and this is one reason I'm in a Macintosh user group. I taught Macintosh computer use for Kinko's. I know and use several applications, including Word, Pages, FileMaker, AppleWorks, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Always my student's hands — not mine — are on the keyboard and the mouse. I am patient. I explain things well. I know how to communicate with a person who is trying to learn something. I am available to teach anyone from the beginning level (never saw a computer before or switching from the PC) to intermediate level. For information above that level, I rely on my computer club.
English is a difficult language with respect to the connection between the written word and the spoken word. English words come from many different languages, and that is why we have so many variations in spelling and pronunciation. But there are groups of words and letters that act the same way. There are patterns and rules that one can learn by organizing words and sounds. So reading and pronunciation can be made easier by learning these patterns and rules and groupings. My degree in linguistics helps me to understand both English and Spanish in this respect, and my teaching skills allow me to communicate this knowledge to students and help them to learn how to better read and pronounce English. I teach these things to students from elementary school age to adults, to both native English speakers and native Spanish speakers.
I don't teach study skills as a separate subject. I teach study skills as part of each and every class that I teach or tutor.
