Michigan State University (Spanish)
Arizona State University (MEd)
I have been tutoring for eight years. I'm available throughout the fall for Spanish lessons and after our initial session, will schedule 1 month in advance.
Spanish is a passion of mine. I am not a native speaker, so I am familiar with the steps of language acquisition personally. I have traveled to Spain and studied abroad in Costa Rica. Currently, I teach pre-school part-time. My tutoring curriculum always involves games and fun activities, buy I'm not opposed to structured learning environments with pencil and paper. I am currently CPR certified, and have already obtained Fingerprint Clearance, as well as having passed a Federal Background Check (to work for the U.S. Census Bureau). As a someone who genuinely cares, I take the safety and education of children seriously. Please contact me if you have any questions!
I would be happy to message you with more details about my personal tutoring strategy.

My rate is negotiable based on distance driven and individual student needs.
Megan is a very patient and knowledgeable tutor who clearly has a passion for what she does. She makes learning Spanish fun. She'll find extra work to coincide with my daughters school Spanish lesson to broaden her skills.
She always gives me a review of their lesson and I'll again get a email on what to work on.
My daughter looks forward to her time with Megan and the lessons are benefiting her, she now gets A's on her Spanish tests.
Thank you! I love working with your daughter - she has an optimistic personality and is always determined to improve academically. It has been a pleasure tutoring her!
After their first class my son had a lot to talk about. He had a lot of fun and was walking around trying to name everything at home in Spanish.
iGracias, Samanatha! I'm so glad X is excited about Spanish and he's fun to work with :)
Megan was awesome. She is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. She had many fantastic suggestions and provided me with tools and ways to find outside resources to help me with the issues I was struggling with. Her tutorship was invaluable in helping me complete my course. She was always professional and prompt. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking help. She also happens to be a really great person who is friendly and easy to work with. Pick her and you won't be sorry.
Megan made an effort every week to bring new material that I was interested in learning. She was patient but had appropriate expectations of me. I truly enjoyed working with her.
Thanks/gracias, Leigh! I appreciate the positive feedback and hope you are able to continue w/ your Spanish.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am able to tutor in English (Learning as a second language, High School L.A. Creative Writing, Composing an Essay, Research). I am currently a facilitator of Sustained Silent Reading (it is called D.E.A.R. at the elementary school level). Reading and writing are essential skills for academic success and as an adult in any career!
I am a native English Speaker with M.Ed. I am formally trained in linguistics, morphology and phonetics for my undergraduate degree.
I have 6 Graduate Credits in Bilingual Education. The Bilingual Education courses focused on teaching strategies for Second Language Learners (English Language Learners/ELLs). For example, one strategy is SIOP, which is a learning program that stands for Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol. The focus of this model is examining language objectives.
Language acquisition is a process. I put into practice the SIOP model in designing unique lesson plans that assess the student and holds them accountable in content standards (e.g., practical applications of Biology in developing English skills). I have worked with, and continue to work with students who's first language is not English in the classroom.
I have tutored 2 young adults in preparation for completion of their GED exam.
I have a lot of experience with PowerPoint on a Mac or PC. PowerPoints are a great tool to supplement your presentations for work or school.
I have taken several courses on reading in effective instruction and have tutored K-5 students in reading comprehension.
Please see my "profile" for description.
I have always been a vocabulary nut. I never went so far as to read the entire dictionary, but would definitely be able to help a child or English Language Learner strengthen their vocab.
