Deborah is an excellent tutor. She tutors my child in SAT and biology. She knows the subject matter very well, has tremendous knowledge and clear explanations of concepts. She is very patient, pleasant and very dependable. My daughter improved a lot in vocabulary and critical reading in last few months.
Deb has been a great tutor for the TEAS V test. She helped me review and learn math and science areas and she really has a knack for clearly explaining things. Working with her over the past several weeks, I was able to absorb the key information quickly, especially in Chemistry - which I had not seen since high school days. I very highly recommend her for test prep in science and math!
It is unusual to me that after only tutoring twice that I would be told no longer that tutor would like to continue tutoring. I was told after the first time all went very good and then told on the second tutoring session because my son seemed very tired and falling asleep and not as attentive as she would like that she no longer should be his tutor. It would appear that maybe this tutor expects everything to be perfect and lacks patience in dealing with certain situations unless it is exactly the way she wants it to be. This is just my honest opinion.
The student under discussion here was in college. I believe it is very important for the student to be committed to the tutoring process for it to succeed. To me this means a student should be willing to come to class rested and attentive, ready to learn and focus. Someone who is 19 years old and seeking help should be mature enough to know this. If a student comes to class during the day and falls asleep several times while we are talking and while he is writing math problems, it seems there may be larger issues. Some students are not serious about learning for personal reasons, but most of my students try very hard, are attentive and reap the rewards of their hard work. I will be honest and tell a client if their student is not trying so that we do not waste our time or the client's money. Parents must also create a supportive environment for learning and know that tutoring is not an "instant fix".
My son has had many teachers and various tutors over his life but Deborah was the first to make reading exciting to him. My boy has never enjoyed reading, but now he can't wait 'til the next session because in his words, "Mrs. Deb just makes the book come alive!" She is a master at getting children invested and interested in the books they read. Thank you Deb!
Deborah provides not only a thorough knowledge of the subject matter, but also works to get thoughts and all the work organized. She zeros in on where the student is missing the concept and works him/her through the thought process so that they understand the whole concept. She will be back to our house through Calculus!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am experienced in tutoring middle-school students who are preparing to take the COOP, HSPT, ISEE, SHSAT or TJSSAT (Thomas Jefferson High School) tests. I can assist your student in areas of logical reasoning problems, scrambled paragraphs, analogies, reading comprehension and math. The specific skills required by the sections of each test can be learned and practiced, along with a review of what to expect and test-taking strategies. I recommend 8-10 hours of tutoring to prepare for any of these private high school admission tests, depending on the student's existing abilities and English language skills.
I home-schooled my own 2 children in all subjects during their K-6 years. I developed the curriculum, and so am familiar with the many instructional options in the basic subjects. I am a patient and very positive person. Teaching a child is one of the most important things anyone can ever do and I will treat your children with respect and care. I also have my B.A. degree in psychology with a concentration in child development.
I have been an administrative professional using PCs and Microsoft software in my paid work for over a decade and can help you to feel comfortable in the Windows environment (any version!). I am patient and supportive and know we can work together to make you fluent in using the PC and Windows for all your needs - whether in software, or on the internet. Being computer literate is very important in our modern "connected" society!
I am a capable phonics tutor, having home-schooled my two children during their grade 1-5 years, teaching them phonics in the early years as part of English language arts. They both score well above-average now in standard tests of English ability (PSAT, SOL, SAT) and my 9th grader reads at a college level. I have tutored Korean, Spanish and Portuguese speakers in phonics as they learned English. During my undergraduate education in Psychology I took courses in linguistics. I am a speaker of English, French and Spanish.
I am experienced in using Quick Books 2014 and 2015 and can help you learn this useful program. I have assisted numerous adults in studying for the TEAS tests and can help you review the English/grammar, science and math sections. As an experienced, patient tutor, I will assist each student in review of basic terms, rules and key concepts for those sections in which they are weak. I have studied biology and chemistry on advanced levels, and have taught classes in Nursing School (anatomy & physiology and psychology). Improving your score on this test requires a serious commitment to studying, but it will reward you with increased earning potential in your new field!
