Judy is a wealth of information, has multiple learning activities for all reading levels, she leaves activities/books for child to work on during the week, the learning is interesting and fun to child, establishes great report with student, flexible and patient. We have seen immediate progress and confidence with our child's reading.
Reading/writing to my 7 year old, she really enjoyed the reading games. She has already gone up a group in school and seems less frustrated with reading. I am really happy with the way things are going.
Judy has helped my son get a handle on geometry. With her help, he will pass the class. Thank you!
Judy is doing great at helping my son love learning, and has the patience to help him work through his obstacles. She's been great so far :-)
Judy does a fantastic job teaching my dyslexic daughter in a way that makes her feel valuable and want to learn more
Judy has been working with my son for 15 months. My son has off-the-charts ADHD! I'll be honest, I was a little nervous about having her tutor him; my initial thought was to find a 20-something year old male to work with my son. Boy, am I glad I didn't and we found Judy instead. Judy understood my son's needs and style immediately. She has been nothing but patient with him, she's laughed with him, she's listened to his stories, she's let him walk and talk and work and play and just be himself: exactly what he needed. She has worked closely with his special ed teacher at his school, as well as many of the other teachers there. Judy has gone above and beyond my expectations. We have been blessed to have her in our lives.
Judy is a great tutor who is very caring, patient, and encouraging!!! My daughter really liked her!!! I was an overwhelmed homeschooling mom therefore, we looked into my daughter taking some of her classes at a home-school co-op. We chose Judy instead because the cost was the same and my daughter got one on one instruction without me having to drive anywhere!
Judy has an effective pairing of knowledge and learning styles. I highly recommend Judy. Within five months of tutoring my daughter went up a whole grade! More importantly, in the subjects she tutored her she went from anxiety and discouragement to love of learning. My daughter really looked forward to Judy coming. Judy went above and beyond to help my daughter be successful.
She is easy to get a hold of and a great communicator. Flexible in meeting times, length, and places. Judy comes very prepared. She was always bringing things to the tutoring session that would help my daughter grasp the concept they were working on. Such a blessing to have Judy in our lives.
Judy is very patient and nice tutor. My son, who easily gets tired of anything, waits for Judy every Friday. He enjoys the tutoring with Judy very much. She knows how to encourage kids while enjoying the study. I believe enjoyment is the most important aspect to do anything. I am sure my son's reading and writing level would be improved gradually.
Judy has been a great tutor for my daughter. She is thoughtful and relates well to her. We are very happy with our choice!
Judy was great!!! She helped our son who was in 6th grade and was at a 4th grade math level. She gave him the confidence he needed to start realizing that he can do the work. She brought his math skills way up and gave him the encouragement he needed. We were very sad when she had to leave. I would definitely recommend Judy.
Judy is such great helper. She is very knowledgeable and I was very comfortable with her. She listened to what my needs were, and was able to help me get through my tests. With her help, I passed the class with a better grade than I expected.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ACT English test contains questions that test your vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation knowledge. The questions can be very tricky, and multiple choice answers can be similar to each other. I can teach you different methods that will help you recognize correct answers.
Attention to detail and making inferences are very important on the ACT reading test. I can help you learn how to look for the information in the reading passages that will help you correctly answer the questions that follow. I can help you prepare for the ACT before the first time you take it, or help you improve your score before you take it again.
I have experience as a special education paraprofessional, and both of my children were diagnosed with ADD. My sessions with active kids are fast paced and include several different activities. I can also help your child with organization skills, and tutor many different subjects.
Finding solutions to algebraic equations and inequalities can be fun! I actually enjoy teaching and doing math through the 9th grade level. Solving for x can be like solving a mystery or doing an experiment. If Algebra is not your "thing" and your student needs some help, I am ready to come to the rescue. A few years ago, I tutored a high school junior who was at the 3rd grade level in math. One year later, she passed Algebra and graduated with her class!*
* RESULTS NOT TYPICAL!
I understand sensory overload and melt down triggers. With students who have autism, I find it very beneficial to get acquainted and feel comfortable with each other before doing the work. I use visual aids, music and tactile stimulation as much as possible. I do not tutor non-verbal students.
I understand that early intervention for struggling readers is crucial. I completed a special course in teaching reading and decoding and I have experience working with several students who have dyslexia. I am aware of the specific skills that need strengthening, and have experience with the Wilson method. In addition to phonics, I work with rhyming words, consonant blends, word building, word sorts, prefix and suffix meanings, and ending sounds. All of my reading students have made progress in fluency and comprehension.
I love elementary students! I have worked in both private and public schools, mostly with K-5th graders. I enjoy getting to know my students personally as each one is special in his or her own way. Your child might be interested in soccer, or making jewelry, or fascinated with the solar system. Together, we can use hobbies and interests to make learning fun. I also use many games that help improve math and reading skills. We start at your child's level and build on what s/he already knows. I move forward at your child's pace, when we both feel confident that important concepts are understood. I've helped many kids who have special needs, so if you are a frustrated homework helper, I'd be happy to support you & your child! We can celebrate together when your student meets learning goals.
I have always liked math, and I enjoy teaching students who struggle with it. I begin at your student's level of mastery and build on that foundation; raising his or her level of confidence and self-esteem in the process. We will use manipulatives, games and music to help your student understand HOW to find an answer by using the clues that are given. All of my past students improved their math grades and test scores. My tutoring prevented a 3rd grader from repeating, and helped a high school student advance from 3rd grade level to Algebra I in just over a year.
As adults, we use the scientific method without even realizing it. It is important for young students to learn to ask questions, form a theory, observe, gather and record data to prove or disprove a hypothesis. The same method used in writing research papers in the upper grades. When your student gets personally involved in hands-on activities, the learning will "stick" better. I am happy to recreate science experiments and use outside sources to increase your child's interest and success in Science.
I can help you learn English grammar, parts of speech, sentence structure, paragraph writing, speaking and spelling. Although I am not certified as an ESL teacher, I do have experience teaching English to a young Russian immigrant in the US and several adults in France.
I would more than happy to help you reach your goal. I have been a private tutor for 2.5 years and I have 6 years of prior experience teaching adults. I am a current online student with experience in reading for information and writing research papers. I work with grammar, spelling, and organized writing on a daily basis. I truly enjoy teaching math and know you can make progress quickest when you have a private tutor. I am a friendly, dependable person with a sense of humor and a flexible schedule to accommodate your needs.
Proper grammar is important for gaining respect and sounding professional, especially in a job interview or trying to get a promotion. It is also necessary for writing assignments in high school and college. Whether you want to write or speak the English language better, I can help you make sense of word choice, verb agreement, and tense agreement. The best time to start working on it is now, and the best place to start is right where you are.
I offer lessons on essay writing for the GRE. Staring at a blank paper when you have to write a response can be paralyzing. I can help you organize your thoughts, produce a main idea, and write a brief outline before you begin writing sentences and paragraphs. No matter what the essay question or topic is, the end result will be a smooth, logical response. Excellent grammar, punctuation, and writing will increase your GRE score. Your improved writing skills will continue to be valuable in your future written communications.
I have 6 years of experience as a Nutrition Educator for the University of Wisconsin Extension. I also have training and experience with a nationally known weight management program. I can help you with your nutrition-related studies or students in a nutrition program.
I love to read, and I love to teach. I was a reading volunteer for two years at a private school that used a phonics curriculum. I have over 3 years experience as a student support paraprofessional and helped many students with reading during that time. I worked with my own son daily at home per his Kindergarten teacher's recommendation. He was a late reader, but success did come! I would be happy to help your child learn to translate the printed page into language.
I enjoy doing math up to the 9th grade level, and I love teaching students who struggle with it. If your child will not accept your help, or you just don't like math, I would be happy to come to your rescue! I use manipulatives, games, realia, and music to teach basic concepts and review as needed. I will ensure that your child understands concepts before moving forward at his or her pace.
Whether you are writing a book report in 6th grade, an essay for your high school English class, or a business proposal, proofreading skills are essential for success. Although our computers catch most spelling and grammar mistakes, they offer no help for smooth, organized writing that will put you at the top. Proofreading is about accuracy and making your writing "sound" excellent. If your goal is excellence, I have an app for that!
Psychology is a fascinating subject! I would love to help you write a paper or study for your class. I have had more college level psych courses than I can list here. I have experience with people who have neurological differences and mental illness, and can help you understand brain development in infants, children or adolescents. Contact me if you want to learn more about human behavior and how our brains work!
I welcome the opportunity to work with emerging and struggling readers of all ages. In order to increase my knowledge and understanding of struggling readers, I took a college course in reading and decoding. To my surprise and dismay, I have found that many students whose reading fluency is below average have undetected and undiagnosed dyslexia. I understand the urgency of early intervention and will advise parents if there is a need for further assessments.
On my first visit, I do an informal assessment of your child's reading by asking him or her to read to me. From there, we determine what skills need strengthening and how to go about it.
I love to read and want to help ignite your child's desire to read. I have a wealth of books and games for all reading levels. I am also happy to integrate school assignments or books you have at home. I use discussions about illustrations and photographs to increase comprehension and create a deeper understanding of the text.
Before budget cuts in education, I was a Special Education Student Support Paraprofessional in Minnesota. I have experience working with K-5 students who have EBD, ASD, LD, SLD, ADHD and PDDNOS. I am familiar with IEPs and will be happy to adapt a plan to fit your child's needs. I have also worked 5 years as a Program Specialist for adults who have cognitive limitations. As a parent of adult special needs kids, I understand that YOU need more support. I also know how important it is for parents to receive frequent feedback from teachers. I look forward to tutoring your child and giving you the support you need and deserve.
As a student support paraprofessional and tutor, I have assisted many students with reviewing vocabulary and subject content in Science, Social Studies, and Math. I teach students how to find important information in their text books, organize it, and suggest tricks for memorization. Often times, I explain a difficult concept with an analogy and I see the light turn on. Seeing a confused facial expression change to a smile and nod makes teaching a rewarding job!
I work with students to make up funny stories that help them learn parts of speech and improve vocabulary. We may use a thesaurus, dictionary, and word games to increase knowledge of synonyms and antonyms. No matter what age you are, if you want to improve your English vocabulary and have some fun at the same time, I am happy to help you!
I have nearly 4 years of experience of writing at the college level. Having successfully completed 3 college level courses in writing composition and one in research, I am able to help you or your child write research papers, essays or book reports in an organized, grammatically correct fashion.
