About Katherine

I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Physics. I then went on to earn a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Denver. I am currently in my 4th year of teaching middle school math in public schools. I have worked with a wide array of students - English language learners, students with special needs and gifted students. I truly love teaching math! I also know a lot of great hands-on ways to explain math concepts!

I also spent a year and a half living in South American and I'm fluent in Spanish. Hope to hear from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I completed a Differential Equations course through CU-Boulder's Applied Math Department in Fall 2006. I received a B. I also worked extensively with differential equations in many of my other math classes including Fourier Series (A- grade, Fall 2007), Numerical Analysis (A grade, Fall 2008) and Modeling in Applied Math (B+ grade, Fall 2009).

Sewing

I have been sewing since I was 7 years old. I've made countless dresses, shirts, skirts and other pieces of clothing for myself. I'm experienced at creating my own patterns as well. I participated in sewing through my 4-H club and went to State Fair several times for my sewing projects. I worked in an alterations shop in Boulder for a summer during college. I also have my own business called Hollyhock Projects where I sell t-shirts and bags I've sewed myself. I've had my Hollyhock items available for sale at stores like Buffalo Exchange and Fancy Tiger.
