About Jenna

Hello! My name is Jenna G., or Ms. G for short, and I would love to have the privilege of being your tutor! I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Spanish. During college and post-college, I traveled to Costa Rica to live and study both Spanish and teaching English.
I think I would make a great tutor because of my previous teaching experience and my ironic history with the Spanish language. When I was in high school, I struggled and even "hated" Spanish; however, when the decision came to choose a Minor in college, I figured Spanish would be the most applicable to the "real world." From that decision on, something switched in my brain and I became obsessed, motivated, and excited about learning the Spanish language and the cultures that speak it. I am so happy I stuck with Spanish and would like to inspire other students to do the same, even if they're currently struggling. I would also like to offer assistance to anyone not struggling with Spanish, but who would like to practice with someone who can also offer quality language instruction. I hope to hear from you soon!

I successfully completed the edTPA assessment provided by the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. Throughout the completion of edTPA, each step was aligned with the Common Core State Standard that drove the process of planning, instruction, and assessment.

As a tutor, I hope I can offer the services you need. I am eager to begin working with people of all ages in order to bring this world a little closer through language!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

Having a younger brother diagnosed with ADHD as a kindergartner and a father diagnosed with adult ADHD when my younger brother at the same time, I have personal and close experience with ADHD. As an elementary educator I have had courses in instructing students with special needs including ADHD. I can use current research to help guide my instruction and practices I include in order to help the student be as successful as possible. I have also had courses and classroom experience in teaching reading, which included reading comprehension.

Common Core

I completed the edTPA for a Teacher Preparation Program for the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. The edTPA is a rigorous performance based assessment that tests future teachers on whether or not they are ready for the field. In successfully completing the edTPA process, I consistently aligned each of the three tasks (planning, instruction, assessment) with the Common Core State Standard used for the subject and grade level I would be teaching (literacy, first grade). I am very familiar with the process of creating lesson plans, instruction and assessments that best align with the Common Core Standards.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Minor in Spanish. The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire is a nationally accredited school for Elementary Education and has given me ample opportunities to practice the theories taught in the classroom. During my student teaching semester I had the experience of working with first grade general education, sixth grade History and Science, and seventh and eighth grade exploratory Spanish which gave me a wide variety of experience with lesson planning, curriculum, and learning activities.

Study Skills

As a successful college graduate and a qualified teacher for Elementary Education, I have a strong grasp of various types of study skills as well as various strategies that work for the different types of learners. From my own educational experience, I am able to reflect on my experiences with studying skills in order to help my student better reflect on their studying experiences; reflection leads to changes and in turn enhancing their studying skills autonomously.
