I am a husband of 30 years, father of 3 adult children, grandfather of 1. I have taught K-8 PE and 6th grade classroom, also 4th - 8th grade ability grouping math. I enjoy working with children and enjoy watching them "get" new ideas and concepts.
What I love about tutoring is the one-on-one attention that I can give to the student. Usually in the classroom we have 24 students trying to get our attention so I find that the tutoring sessions have more impact on the lesson for the child.
I love math. I usually go about it a different way so that I can reach many different learning styles. I have taken math up to and including college algebra, however I enjoy tutoring/teaching only up to pre-algebra.
My minor degree is in psychology. I have worked for the El Paso County DHS as a contractor working with families in their homes to help resolve conflict. I also have had an office downtown as a registered unlicensed psychotherapist with the state of Colorado.
I performed the CLEP test while in the Air Force and have done several presentations and public speaking engagements for different organizations that I have been a part of.
I have taught K-6 PE and 6th grade classroom teacher for 5 years. I also have taught math by ability grouping 4 - 8 graders. I have enjoyed many successes working with children of all ages but the most enjoyable for me is the 0 - 11 year olds.
I would like you to contact me regarding any and all tutoring that you might need. You will find me light-hearted and will have a fun time while learning at the same time. I usually like the East library for my tutoring sessions, however the park or your home works as well. I am a husband of 30 years, father of 3 adult children, grandfather of 1. Very calm demeanor. My son never talks to anyone, after meeting them for the first time, he did with Mr. Fred. I am very impressed and excited to do more lessons!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BS in Social Science, MA in Educational Administration, have passed the Colorado PLACE exam and am on the Colorado Department of Education as an alternative licensed K-6 elementary teacher.
