About John

I am a current certified high school math teacher with 12 years of teaching experience. I have a BS in Mathematics with a Secondary Education Emphasis from the University of Northern Colorado and a MS in Statistics from Texas A&M. My subjects with a lot of experience are Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus, and Trigonometry, but I also tutor in Prealgebra, Statistics, and Probability, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. With my experiences as a teacher, I can tailor my lessons to meet my student's needs. I also am able to simplify complex math jargon that is often encountered in college level courses.

I have always loved teaching and tutoring. All my professional life, I've worked with students, from tutoring while in high school and college to teaching in the classroom. I love looking for that "light bulb" moment when a student finally gets a concept and I believe that it is my duty to make as many of those moments happen.

Please contact me to schedule lessons. I am willing to work in individual appointments for single concepts or with regularly scheduled tutoring sessions, either in person or online. I look forward to working with you.

Notice to Statistics Students: I have some limited experience with the statistical programs SAS and R. However, I do not have any experience with the programs SPSS or STATA. I apologize, but I will be unable to help you with those programs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Excellent!

John is an exceptional tutor who has an extensive background in math. He helps with homework but also pinpoints areas of weakness to strengthen. He has given my daughter numerous strategies help strengthen accuracy and memorization of formulas such as the unit square.
