DeVry Institute of Technology (Electronics Engineer)
I currently possess an Electronics Engineering degree and a Master Electrician license. I am also enrolled for the fall semester of 2015 at UCCS, to begin completion of a second major in Biology. My ultimate goal is to complete my Master’s degree in education, and become either a secondary teacher, or a higher education instructor. I am highly proficient in math subjects and would prefer to tutor math at this time. However, as my current education progresses in the Biology program at UCCS, I would be willing to tutor secondary biology and chemistry, as well as math. I have tutored junior high and High school student who needed additional guidance in their math courses, as well as teaching electrical courses for aspiring licensed electricians. The National Electric Code requires a high level of math skills to pass state licensing exams, and I have tutored many electricians to successfully pass their tests. Since 2000, I have tutored electricians to pass the Wireman, Journeyman, and the Master Electrician test.
I enjoy teaching and have a unique ability to show students alternative ways to approach math problems. Many students have the capacity to complete complex math equations, but may not comprehend the method in which their particular instructor is presenting the information. There are also some instances where students may simply not be socially compatible with their teacher. Whatever the reasons, some students respond better to one-on-one tutoring, to help them view particular equations or methods in a different light, and I believe I am well suited to fill this role.
I have an BS in Engineering and took math courses through Calculus 2 and Differential Equations. I have had success teaching other students a new way to approach a math equation that they may not have previously been exposed to, or their instructor may not teach in class.
I look forward to assisting in your test preparations and/or helping you to understand why some laws of mathematics are necessary and how you can more easily retain the knowledge and tips to understanding math. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
