Teaching others is truly my number one calling. I've been doing so for nearly 20 years and have worked with students of all levels, from elementary to advanced college. Teaching others is truly my number one calling. I've been doing so for nearly 20 years and have worked with students of all levels, from elementary to advanced college. I started as a peer chemistry tutor while working on my Bachelor's degree at CSU in Ft. Collins and went on to lead the IB and AP chemistry programs at Rampart High School in Colorado Springs after earning a Master's degree in science education from Colorado College. After nine years teaching at Rampart, I became the Head of the Science Department at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School, where I currently serve an extraordinarily diverse group of students today.
I am highly skilled at working with students of all ability levels in one-on-one or group settings, and absolutely live for the "ah-ha!" moments that happen when science is suddenly "de-mystified." As someone who struggled to learn chemistry myself throughout my high school and early college years, I love being able to share my unique, time-tested strategies with others as they work to master this notoriously tricky subject. Having taught over 4,000 students in my lifetime - from those who may consider it hopeless to those that seem to have been born experts - I can say with 100% confidence that ANYONE can learn this subject, and my role is to help you get there. Many of my students have moved on to earn their PhDs, become practicing physicians, or even become chemistry teachers themselves. Almost none of these individuals considered themselves to be any good at chemistry prior to enrolling in my class, or even particularly interested in it.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from Colorado State University, with minors in biochemistry and microbiology. I graduated in the top 1% of my class of over 3,000 and was fortunate enough to intern with the Centers for Disease Control, USDA Crops Research Laboratory, and even Walt Disney World's integrated pest management team on site in Orlando FL. My undergraduate coursework includes a wide variety of science disciplines including a complete host of advanced chemistry courses, physics, human gross anatomy, zoology, microbiology, and biochemistry.
After working in research, I discovered that my true passion in life is outside of the lab, fostering a curiosity for science in others. This drove me to earn a Master's degree in education, which in turn allowed me to become a teacher at the high school and college levels and inspire the next generation of leaders in science and engineering. This makes me uniquely qualified as a highly skilled educator that also possesses a robust working knowledge of all scientific disciplines.

Kevin has provided examples of their subject expertise by answering 1 question submitted by students on Wyzant’s Ask an Expert.
Kevin did a great job helping my daughter who was struggling in AP Chemistry. Although she has a fantastic instructor at school, my daughter needed more individual assistance and extra practice beyond what we could expect any classroom teacher to provide. Kevin is great at assessing the student's individual strengths and weaknesses and providing extra explanations and practice in the areas they struggle. My daughter really enjoyed working with him, and her grades really improved. My only regret is that we didn't hire him sooner. I would highly recommend Kevin to any student needing extra help in Chemistry.Jill, 22 lessons with Kevin
Kevin was very knowledgeable regarding how the IB program teaches Chemistry, which was extremely helpful regarding learning strategies and concepts for the lesson.Kirsten, 1 lesson with Kevin
Great tutor for preparing for a class and preparing for an exam
Kevin is a great tutor!! He helped me the summer before Chem 1201 to prepare, and it was so helpful once the class started. I felt prepared the whole semester until the last unit, and contacted him to help me prepare for the final. He is very knowledgeable and knows exactly how to teach at the level you need. He makes impossible topics clear, and he makes sure you come to the right answer on your own. He helps you figure out the subject with guidance, but doesn’t just give you the answer. He has great mnemonics and study tips. He’s truly a teacher! I strongly recommend for people not solid in Chemistry, like me. I will probably be contacting him throughout the next few years!!Amber, 1 lesson with Kevin
Kevin taught me how to construct proper graphs to reflect the experimental data. He was very professional and user friendly. He communicated early and often and made his schedule free to accommodate my timeline. He handled the time zone differences with easeWilliam, 1 lesson with Kevin
I worked with Kevin on acid base titrations and he was wonderful! He not only helped me with my assignment, but he was also cared about making me understand the concepts. He was very patient and clear throughout the session and I would recommend him as a tutor to anyone needing help with chemistry.Gina, 5 lessons with Kevin
Kevin was able to help me understand the material in a way I never thought I could. He didn't only teach me how to go about understanding the concepts of General Chemistry but he encouraged me to believe in myself to succeed. He's very patient and knows his stuff. He is absolutely the best tutor I've ever had! I highly recommend him! You won't regret it!Vjollca, 8 lessons with Kevin
Kevin did a great job in both of my Chemistry lessons. We went over oxidation numbers and Lewis Structures in our last lesson. He has great acronyms that helped me to remember some of the information easily. Thank you!Elyse, 4 lessons with Kevin

Kevin taught me redox reactions this time and although I had an idea of how to do them before I now understand why I have to do what I do.Maya, 6 lessons with Kevin

Awesome chemistry tutor
Kevin helped me understand a lot of things that my teacher glossed over to help give me a much more solid foundation for chemistry! I would definitely recommend him if it's your first chemistry class or even if you just need to some review before a big test!Eric, 33 lessons with Kevin
