I know the common misconceptions held by many students. To counter these misconceptions I have developed several analogies that help students understand underlying financial principles. I use sports, sailing, history and aviation principles to reinforce my teaching. Diagrams and graphics are major reinforcement tools.

I headed my own business brokerage and private equity brokerage firm named Kepler Financial. The reasoning behind the name choice was three fold. First Kepler was a middle man. He fits between Copernicus and Galileo. Kepler Financial is a financial middleman. We introduce entrepreneurs to Private Equity Groups. Second, the language of physics and finance is mathematics. Kepler Financial is a number cruncher. Third, and most important, Kepler was the first to note that the planets are in elliptical orbits not circular orbits. Sometimes they are going faster and sometimes they are going slower. Have you noticed that the economy is sometimes going faster and sometimes going slower? Therefore you need a number cruncher middleman to guide you through both the fast times and slow times.

Why is this relevant? In the beginning of a Kepler Financial assignment I had to explain the financial realities to very intelligent but not necessarily sophisticated but streetwise entrepreneur. Explanations had to clear and straight forward. Then in the due diligence phase I had to explain the same identical situations to the highly sophisticated professional support staff such as bankers, accountants and attorneys in very technical terms. My concept is for students to first grasp the fundamental concepts like a streetwise entrepreneur, then master the more sophisticated nomenclature and relationships to prepare for academic test.

I have an MBA from a major university. I have been involved in real estate syndication and private equity for over thirty years. I have taught accounting, cost accounting, finance, international business and financial institution management for California State Dominguez Hills for fifteen years. I am adept at speaking to street wise entrepreneurs on a gut level basis and to their bankers and accountants on a technical basis.

We can review the chapter objectives and prepare a list of expected questions on the exams. For the students trying to excel in class and later on the job, my business experience is extremely significant. Alright

I had one lesson with Jack for an upper level college Finance problem. Jack was very nice and seemed very knowledgeable but sadly got the entire Finance problem wrong and took a very complicated approach to the problem.
