About Conrad

I completed my undergraduate career in Pennsylvania. I took a few education courses at the suggestion of a friend and I knew from that point on I wanted to be a teacher. I moved to New York and completed my master's degree in science education. I am certified in biology and general science.

My favorite topics include evolution and ecology! I read a lot of books written by scientists in order to gain knowledge and pass it on to my students. I currently work in a middle school. This last year I taught life science to 6th graders and basic chemistry and physics to 7th graders. This upcoming year I will be teaching the Living Environment course to an accelerated 8th grade class as well as teaching 8th grade general science which includes topics such as biology, earth science, and space science.

My tutoring experiences in the past include Common Core math, SAT Math, as well as topics in algebra and geometry. Perhaps what I enjoy most about tutoring and teaching is that moment when the student understands the concept gets that boost of confidence! Helping students improve their grades and reach their goals is the most rewarding aspect of this job. It brightens my day when students tell me excitedly how well they did on their test or if they finished strong at the end of the quarter!

My goal is to keep students engaged and challenged. I believe students have a stake in their learning and rise to the occasion when they are presented with challenges. I assign homework every session in order to help the student practice at home and develop skills which we will review and apply during our sessions. I always encourage students to ask questions and stop me if they do not understand a concept. Together we will find the best strategy to help the student succeed!

When I was in high school, I really did not care for math. I was in the accelerated track, but I always felt I had to work harder to keep up with the other students. Because of my early experiences, I understand the frustration that can come with trying to learn math at any level. As someone who had to work especially hard in math during my school years, I also know many strategies to help students succeed as well as the common areas students tend to struggle with!

As far back as I can remember, I have always loved science! I take that passion with me today as a teacher as I hope to inspire younger generations in also finding a love for science. Gettysburg College has a rigorous liberal arts curriculum in which I was required to take several biology courses, two years of chemistry, and one year of physics. Through my biology coursework, I studied genetics, microbiology, cell biology, topics in zoology, conservation biology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. I am also very familiar with the New York State Regents exams for Living Environment and Chemistry, as well as the NYS 8th grade science assessment. I will know exactly what students are learning in class and be able supplement their learning during our sessions with my own materials and knowledge of the subject matter.

I look forward to hearing you and helping you succeed in your academic career!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taught algebra to many different types of students aging from elementary to high school students intent on taking the SAT.
