About Ashley

I am a Speech Pathologist in the Colorado Springs Area- during the school year I work at the Deaf and Blind School. I am skilled in American Sign Language, and have knowledge related to my Scope of Practice - which includes speech, reading, writing, language (grammar, syntax, etc), vocabulary development, to name a few. Overall, I have a wide range of skills and experience.

I prefer to meet in your home or in the community so that work is functional and purposeful. In my "off" days, I work at the hospital to keep my self busy!

I'm active, love the outdoors, and spoil my dog - I'm another skilled professional looking to do what I love over the summer - "helping to organize your brain for better communication".

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

I am a speech therapist with training in auditory system and technologies used for the sort. I have 3 years experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. I know how to use amplification and have experience with auditory training. I have 4 years experience in the school setting with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

Phonics

As a Speech Therapist, I have training on Phonics. Working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, phonics becomes a large part of speaking. Understanding the sound/letter relationship is important in beginning literacy for all children.

Sign Language

I tutored and interpreted American Sign Language for 3 years in college. I then worked for 3 years at California School for the Deaf. Since moving to Colorado, I have been working at Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. My ASL skills are useful in teaching, as well as tutoring and communicating with D/HH people/students.

Speech

I attended graduate school in Colorado for Speech Language Pathology. I have worked in the field since graduating in 2008. Through ASHA, I have all my credentials to work as a Speech Pathologist.

Volleyball

I played volleyball from Middle School on. I continued to play in College on community leagues. In California, I was the JV coach for the HS team; now being in Colorado, I will be co-coaching a HS team.
