Most people say their least favorite subject is Mathematics, but it has always been my favorite. My favorite moment tutoring was when the student I was working with looked up from the Calculus problem she had just finished with a smile and said, "This is actually pretty fun." She had only been working with me for a month, had vowed that she wasn't a math person, and had said that she hated math when we first met.

I first noticed I had a gift for teaching mathematics during AP Calculus in high school. My friends always wanted me in their study group because I could often explain the methods for solving the problems in ways our teacher could not with a large class. I don't think I'll ever forget how one of my close friends who had struggled to get a "B" or "C" on her previous tests called out, "Mary, I need your brain!" as our teacher handed out a new test (a test that was the start of many A's for my friend).

In December 2012, I graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Troy University in Troy, AL. By filling almost all of my free electives in college with math courses, I was able to graduate with a total of 63 credit hours in mathematics courses and a 3.95/4.0 GPA for those courses.

In August 2009, I started tutoring independently during my first semester at Troy after the Mathematics Department Head approached me about tutoring a student from a local high school who had contacted the university. After that semester, I tutored 1-4 students at least once a week in areas such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus, ACT-Math, SAT-Math, and GRE-Math. From August 2010-December 2012, I also worked as a Troy University Mathematics Department Tutor for up to 20hrs a week where I tutored students in all of the undergraduate mathematics courses offered by the university.

I taught during the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years as a math teacher for Chesapeake Mathematics and IT Academy's South Campus. I am currently tutoring as my full time job.

From Aug 2017- May 2019, I worked as a Mathematics Graduate Teaching Assistant at Kansas State University while I worked on my masters degree in Mathematics. I taught Traditional College Algebra during the Fall 2017 semester, Calculus 1 during the Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters, and Plane Trigonometry during the Spring 2019 semester.

I prefer to work with students either at their home, local public library, or a coffee shop. I am very flexible, see my availability for more details. I am also available for online tutoring sessions if that is more convenient for you. I do have a 2 hour cancellation policy.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I taught Algebra 1 to an advanced class of 7th graders during the 14-15 school year. I have also taught college algebra, and I often tutor secondary and college algebra.
Calculus,

Calculus

As a mathematics major I took and received an A in not only the standard calculus series, but also vector calculus and a real analysis series (sometimes known as advanced calculus because it mostly deals with proving the theorems used in calculus). I have tutored many high school and college students in Calculus (even AP Calculus students). Calculus is the class that made me realize my passion and aptitude for mathematics was something I wanted to pursue as my undergraduate major.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I taught honors and common core pre-algebra as a secondary mathematics teacher for two years at CMIT South. I am very familiar with the required standards, common mistakes students make, and the types of questions that show up most often on standardized test.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

While I was a secondary mathematics teacher, my certification included Pre-Calculus. I also tutored many students in Pre-Calculus while working as a tutor for the Troy University Mathematics Department.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

Besides being very comfortable with the level of math on the SAT, I am also knowledgeable about the test structure and some helpful time saving tips and strategies. I am a slow but accurate test taker, so learning these strategies was a must to a achieve the score that earned me my full tuition college scholarship. I have also tutored several students in ACT and SAT prep.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I took one semester of Differential Equations during my undergrad and received an A on my first try. I also tutored several students taking an introductory Differential Equations class during subsequent semesters as a Troy University Department of Mathematics Tutor.
Finite Math,

Finite Math

I tested out of this course in college, but I tutored students in this course for the 2.5 years I worked as an on-campus tutor for the Troy University Department of Mathematics. The students who came to see me once a week or two often improved their grade in the course by two letter grades.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I took one course in Linear Algebra as an undergraduate at Troy University. I tutored fellow students while I was in the course and many more in later semesters as a Troy University Department of Mathematics Tutor.
Logic,

Logic

I took one Intro to Advanced Mathematics course which mainly focused on Logic (my only B in a mathematics course as an undergrad, but 1/4 of the class failed). I completed my Computer Science minor which required knowing principles of logic when writing code. I completed many proof based advanced mathematics courses with all "A"s. It is impossible to understand such proofs and to be able to write your own if you don't know logic. Math is Logic. I also tutored many students in all of the courses mentioned above both during and after I took them myself as a Troy University Department of Mathematics Tutor.

Trigonometry,

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a fundamental part of Calculus, Geometry, and Differential Equations. I excelled in all of those courses when I took them, and I have often tutored students in them as well. I also taught the basic Trig functions to my 7th grade algebra 1 students during the 14-15 school year, and it was one of the chapter tests with the best average of the school year.

Patient, Clear and Knowledgeable

My daughter is currently a B student in Pre Algegbra and we wanted to make sure that she is solid in math moving forward. Mary worked with her on the next chapter in math so she can fill more comfortable with her upcoming lessons. She also had her memorize integer perfect squares in which she has done already. Mary seems to be very knowledgeable in the subject matter. I am very pleased with the material they covered for her first lesson. Autumn is looking forward to her next tutoring session. She is a very clear, patient and pleasant tutor.

Great Tutor!

Ms. L. was my 8th grade teacher last year, and now she's my private teacher and is doing a great job teaching me even more. Her teaching styles make it easier for me to learn and grasp new concepts. Thanks Ms. L.
