In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've tutored K-6 students for several years in a variety of subjects. Currently, I am tutoring three students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. I tutor them in English, Math, Geography, and occasional other subjects.
I've completed coursework in phonics and taught it to young children. I've also worked on phonics with a dyslexic student. In my ESL classroom, I frequently refer to phonics rules to increase my students' English language abilities.
