My name is Sadie and I have a degree in Secondary Education with a major in English, minor in Speech and an endorsement in Middle Level Education. I love working with students of all ages. I have spent time teaching in grades 6th through 12th and have worked many tutoring and camp jobs with students ages 5 through 18. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to work either one on one with a student or in small groups. This allows me to get to know the student better and truly understand their learning needs to help them achieve at their own highest level. I like to help students relate what they are learning to their real life so that the learning process becomes more enjoyable and relevant. Who wants to learn if they don't see a need for they're learning?
I always make sure I get to know the student and what they like so that I can try to make the learning as fun and as interactive as possible. To me, each tutoring position is not just a job, but a chance to enhance a child's life and help them see their own successes and achievements. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played basketball 2nd through 12th grade. I've worked at various basketball camps for different age ranges from 5 year olds through seniors in high school. I was a basketball ref for 2nd graders through adult leagues for 4 years. I have coached basketball teams and also given private, one-on-one basketball lessons.
I have a lot of experience with working out and fitness. I have coached many different sports and done personal training. I currently privately coach individuals who are trying to get started working out or running. I have also done personal training for individuals trying to reach specific health and fitness goals, like make a college sports team or run a faster 5K. I believe in a whole-body approach to fitness, where there needs to be a balance of working out, type of workout and general health, wellness and nutrition.
My minor in college was Speech. This included public speaking, speech, debate, and theater classes. I not only have taken multiple levels of public speaking and speech courses, but I also taught speech at the college level. Besides that, I have spoken at national and state level conferences, which gives me a great understanding of public speaking and how it should be approached.
I have taught in middle and high schools, so I am very familiar with what students need help with when it come to study skills. I spent a lot of time in my classrooms helping students find organizational routines that worked well for their specific needs to help them stay on top of their homework and be prepared for tests, papers, and projects. I think it's all about helping a student figure out what works for him or her specifically and then creating a routine or structure to help stick to those skills.
I have been a runner since I was in second grade. I ran track and field and cross country in college. During that time, I also worked clinics and meets with middle and high school students. I have since coached cross country and track and field at various levels. I usually am a distance and mid-distance coach, but have experience with hurdles and sprints as well. I also coach running privately and help people who have never run before, or who are trying to get back into running, run their first 5K.
