My name is Alison and I am a professional scientist (I have worked in the Conservation, Biology and Environmental Chemistry fields for over 12 years now), artist, graduate student and horse endurance rider and trainer. I have a Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Conservation Biology from CU Boulder and a degree-certification from DU in Animal Assisted Therapy with an emphasis on Equine-Assisted Recovery. I have had many commissioned art works (watercolor and acrylic paintings as well as pastel pieces, for the most part) and have also been working on my Master's degree in Conservation Biology. I have taught professionally as a naturalist/educator for multiple age groups and subject matters with a high degree of success in all my programs. I know what it is to be challenged by life, school and adventures and also what it means to meet those challenges head on and beat them with a flourish.

This is my goal for all of my students: that they embark on their chosen paths and are equipped to meet their particular challenges with success and flair. My passion is to approach seemingly abstract issues (Science and Math are full of them!) in a way that is approachable and comfortable for the student and to teach my pupils that everything is relevant to their lives. I really believe in a "holistic" way of approaching learning and like to delve deeper into my students' particular needs and way of learning to tailor a teaching program that will challenge them and help them excel. Not an easy tutor, I am instead exacting, precise and logical; however, I utilize creativity to enhance learning and make the process more organic and less forced.

I am proficient in tutoring many different courses: Art (drawing and painting); Sciences (Biology, Zoology, etc), Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Grammar and Test Prep for all categories in both the SAT and ACT. I have the skill and experience to teach all levels from Elementary to High School and into College courses.

Subjects

Art

Drawing,

Drawing

Although I have a Bachelor's in Environmental and Conservation Biology, I had begun (although not finished) as a dual major in Fine Arts. Although I work my art through many avenues (including drawing, painting, mixed media, pottery, etc.), I have a prolific portfolio of graphite, colored pencil and soft pastel drawn "paintings." I believe that a concrete knowledge of dimensions, flow and composition are essential for the success of any artist working in any medium. I believe experimentation can nurture creativity and one should try a variety of techniques and play with multiple styles of expression. Also, I have professional experience as a naturalist educator, where I taught very successful art classes and brought these sometimes abstract concepts to life in a real-world way. But...what does this mean for you? I am a thoroughly passionate scientist and artist with an educator heart and creative mind with the experience to not only understand the subject matter fully but to bring it to full, living (and very relevant-to-their-lives) color for my students!

Although I work my art through many avenues (including drawing, mixed media, pottery, etc.), I have a prolific portfolio of watercolor and acrylic paintings and have had commissioned pieces in these mediums. Along with these, I hold sound concepts of encaustic, oil, tempera and wax-relief/batik painting techniques. Botany,

Botany

I have a Bachelor's in Environmental and Conservation Biology which entailed many courses related to botany, even including plant identification and systematics! I have been a working scientist since 2001. Part of my career was as a field researcher where plant ecology and identification in a wide variety of habitats was paramount; I have experience in aerial photography mapping of montane vegetation regions as well as wetland delineation. Also, I have professional experience as a naturalist educator, where I brought these sometimes abstract concepts to life in a real-world way. But...what does this mean for you? Zoology

I have a Bachelor's in Environmental and Conservation Biology, which entailed many courses related to the animal world and zoology, including extensive classes in mammalogy and animal behavior. I have been a working scientist since 2001. Part of my career was as a field researcher where animal ecology and identification in a wide variety of habitats was paramount; I have experience in a wide variety of fish, herptile, bird and mammal projects and have worked for the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Easy to connect with! Laid back and casual style. She GETS it... Looking forward to working with her.

Confidence, hope for achievement, fearlessness, belief in my ability. I CAN be the artist I want to be, with her help, of course.
