My hat is off to you for working to help your child succeed.

I am an elementary school teacher with 15 years of experience teaching children. One of my greatest joys in life is witnessing a child say, “I get it.” I love helping children succeed and motivating them to achieve their personal best.

I am an enthusiastic life-long learner myself who relishes the beauties of nature. I will often attempt to use the natural world to teach children math, science, and writing. I have experience...

I have experience with many different curricular programs but mostly enjoy helping students learn through building upon their personal experiences and what they already know.

I would love the opportunity to help your child reach her or his personal best.

I currently hold a valid state of Colorado professional teacher license with an endorsement in the elementary level specialty. I attended UCCS and received my bachelor's degree in biology in 1995. I then completed the Teacher Education Program for elementary certification in 1996. Additionally, I attended Colorado College and received a master's degree in teaching integrated natural science in 2005.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I believe with elementary math it is important to help students understand the concepts by using concrete examples. As an example when I explain the concept of a fraction, I would use an apple or a pizza and cut it up. I also like the notion of trying to make math fun by using games as much as possible. A simple deck of cards, coins, and household supplies can provide material for several games. The internet also provides many sites for math games. I encourage practicing the skills and not being afraid to take a chance when solving problems. Children are natural born problem solvers and experimenters.

Reading

There are so many children's books available to help peek boys and girls interest in reading. Reading starts with that interest in a subject area and then access to an exciting book. Unlocking the magic of words in books is especially fun with this variety of exciting picture books no farther away than the public library. I emphasize the 5 components of reading with a systematic way of presenting them along with encouraging students to find and read books of interest to them.
