I've been a writer and a poet since I was in elementary school. I landed my first job as an editor when I was in the sixth grade and have been involved with all aspects of writing and editing ever since. I am a Beowulf scholar and my style of literary criticism is Cultural Materialism, which means I look at the way a work has been treated over the years and in different forms. Although many folks find Beowulf unreadable, I have always understood that it is important to make these old stories come alive and I have done so by involving myself with living history groups.
I have worked with secondary education level and college students with regard to writing, editing and understanding literature. I've worked with younger students as well and have enjoyed helping them with reading, writing and literary comprehension. I worked with adult ESL students from a variety of countries and really enjoyed that experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
