About Gail

My name is Gail and I love to read. Books and I bonded early in life, and they have been my constant companion for knowledge, delight, and adventure throughout these many years. I've also enjoyed writing both professionally and creatively, which contributes to a deeper understanding of self as well as of literature. Reading and writing are essential skills for a fulfilling life everywhere in the world, and it is gratifying to do my part in ensuring people have this important learning opportunity.

I have tutoring experience through the Pike's Peak Library District's ESL volunteer program several years ago. My student was from the Czech Republic, and we are still friends. I also lived in Germany for a few years, and I understand the challenges of learning different languages. I truly look forward to working with students to provide direction and support in the structural aspects of English as well as an appreciation of the art of words. My time is flexible and my commitment is complete.

My professional career was in logistics, technical writing, and proposal preparation for the Department of Defense (DOD) satellite communications, ground-based space control, missile warning and missile defense sensor engineering contracting industry. My responsibilities also included guiding and instructing coworkers to understand, coordinate, and write proposals and other technical documents in compliance with project requirements. As a DOD employee, I have passed several background checks for high-level security clearances. I have a Master's degree in Systems Management, and have studied copyediting through reference books and on-line course work.

Since my retirement, I have been a freelance copyeditor with experience in editing and proofreading high-quality technical manuscripts. I have also written creatively. My computer skills are current and I am proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

I have realigned my work skills for the world of literature and instruction. My twenty years of experience in the defense industry brings considerable knowledge and proficiencies applicable to instruction and publications work, such as collaboration, working under pressure, meeting deadlines, delivering complex written products, excellent organizational abilities, and management expertise. I have great independent initiative as well as team-player enthusiasm. I adapt quickly and easily to new tasks, and have a keen attention to detail. In spite of all this professionalism, I also have a fine sense of humor, enjoy meeting new people, and love wordplay and stories from the heart and imagination.

I hope to work with you soon!
