Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

After attaining my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the Pennsylvania State University I spent 4 years teaching 5th grade in the Chicago Public School system. After that, I moved to Los Angeles and taught 5th and 6th grade math at a private elementary school, where I also served as the math specialist.

As a 6th grade math teacher, much of my curriculum was spent preparing my students to place into advanced pre-algebra. I taught my students how to solve for a variable, create algebraic equations, and work with integers. We also explored slope by using function machines and plotting the points on a coordinate graph. All of these skills are taught using concrete and/or pictorial representations first and then moving into the abstract.
