Bio

I love teaching. From camp counselor to outdoor instructor to classroom teacher, I have over 19 years of experience working with kids aged 10-18. I have two Colorado teaching licenses: Elementary Education K-6 and 6-12 English. My breadth in teaching experience is evidenced by my Language Arts teaching placements in most grades between 4th and 12th Grade. I love teaching. From camp counselor to outdoor instructor to classroom teacher, I have over 19 years of experience working with kids aged 10-18. My breadth in teaching experience is evidenced by my Language Arts teaching placements in most grades between 4th and 12th Grade. I have unique passion and experience having taught a diversity of global and local curriculum in public, charter, and private schools for 12 years.

I implement a variety of assessments as tools for measuring understanding, comprehension, and growth. As a reading teacher, I group students by reading level and work on a variety of skills such as vocabulary, multi-syllabic words, prefixes, etc. As a writing teacher, I can enhance writers' ideas in most genres from song writing to poetry to expository essays.

My experiences with outdoor and experiential education have further developed and provided me with an abundant set of educational tools. By combining my outdoor education teaching skills with public school curriculum, I now have a better skill set to teach outcome-based lessons for those spatial, visual, auditory, and traditional learners. For example, I may have a student show me facial expressions they imagine a character might have in order to observe reading comprehension.

I will bring a unique perspective to tutoring because I have spent so much time in the classroom teacher's chair. Because I know what is expected in the classroom, I will support your child's education through tutoring, mentoring, and developing good study habits.

I have 5 years of teaching in the elementary classroom. I love to incorporate movement, visuals, and videos into my math instruction. I'm familiar with the Common Core Standards and NGSS. I wish I had a whole science lab like Bill Nye!

I have written and performed my original songs solo and in three different music groups for almost 6 years now. I have been playing acoustic guitar for almost 20 years. I also play electric guitar. I have 25 years of running experience. As a coach, I coached High School Cross Country for 3 season at Glenwood Springs High School in Colorado. As an athlete, I won Arizona State Track and Field State Championships in the year 2000 in the 2 mile and 4x800 meter Relay. In the 800 meter race at State Meets, I placed second and third. I won many races in High School Cross Country and placed second in state my senior year in 1999. I ran 1 year with the University of Colorado Track and Field program in winter and spring. After college, I continue to run recreationally but up to distances of 50 miles.
