About Dawn

Learning is a truly revolutionary act! I genuinely believe it can be fun as well as mind expanding. I’ve tutored for Colorado Rocky Mountain School focusing on literature, writing, history and some science. I’ve also been adjunct faculty for Colorado Mountain College in both the computer science and graphic/web design departments. Additionally, I taught classes to a variety of adults on numerous topics such as how to use a digital camera, and to how to use eBay. It’s a great thrill to see someone realize that a subject isn’t as hard as they thought and know that they will be able to master it should they desire.

My bachelor of science is in anthropology with a heavy hand in the arts and environmental sciences. I’m currently working on my masters in environmental law and policy. I personally love to learn and really enjoy helping someone understand something that they had previously found to be difficult. I believe we all have a true genius and that sometimes learning is really confidence building and discovering that if you take it slow and follow a thought out process it will ultimately all make sense.

I love reading and writing. I've always scored near perfect in standardized tests in this subject area. It is a method of communication that can be so varied - from scientific papers to poetry - yet encapsulate a feeling or thought in a way that no other method can. I also learned how to diagram sentences from nuns so I've taken the road less traveled in terms of grasping the minutia of the English language!

I have a friendly, chill personality and am very confident that I can help you understand you subject matter better. I personally love learning new things and connecting thoughts and subjects together. Please contact me if you think we might be a good fit. Thanks for your time.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I have taught InDesign at CMC in the graphic design department as well as utilized it since it's inception when Adobe bought out Macromedia and created it. Prior to that, I used and taught both Quark and PageMaker - it's technical predecessors.

Anthropology

I have a Bachelor of Science in anthropology from Oregon State University. In addition to the degree I did a special internship there in forensic anthropology where we reassembled bones of three individuals from the Byzantium era in Jordan. We cleaned, labeled, reassembled and theorized the causes of death for these individuals.

Public Speaking

I have been in Marketing for many years and in the past ten years have given a great many national, regional, and state talks to organizations about various marketing methods and how they can utilize them. Additionally, I was a teacher at CMC for years and would give presentations as part of my job.
