I am a dedicated, caring, knowledgeable educator with 18 years of full-time experience teaching English courses to students from second grade to college level. I currently teach 10th grade honors, standard, and foundations levels of English for an online public school. I taught in the classroom at the high school level for 13 years, and as an adjunct English instructor for a local community college for five years. I am very experienced and successful in helping identify students' learning styles, then helping students develop study skills that will enable them to learn the best way possible for them. When working with a colleague and student recently to help the student, who has ADHD, develop study skills to enhance his learning, my colleague told me that I "should be a Special Ed Teacher." She noted that I knew right away what study skills to recommend for the student to be successful. I am sincerely dedicated to helping students succeed, and helping them become aware of, and in charge of their own learning. All students can be successful learners; but all students do not learn the same way. The more self aware a student is; the better they are able to learn, and be happy in that learning.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
