I am an experienced high school math teacher and tutor who has worked with students from 6-12th grades, having taught or tutored nearly every level of math from pre-algebra through AP Calculus (algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry pre-calculus, probability and statistics, SAT and ACT prep).
When I was a student I experienced struggles in math, and so I know the value and importance of having a patient and understanding tutor to help gain mastery. Patience, understanding, and thorough and clear explanations of content are exactly what you will get from me.
Because I was a student myself, I took many or all of the same tests you need to prepare for, scoring 5's on the AP Calculus exams, 790 on the Math SAT, and 800 on the math GRE, and therefore I know from personal experience how to best prepare for these assessments and can help you do the same. Because I am a classroom teacher who works with other math teachers, I am also very familiar with how math teachers teach and assess their students, and can help you acquire the study skills needed to succeed.
To include a comment from a parent who was happy with my services:
"He has been so helpful whenever my daughter has had a question about a math assignment...has certainly fostered a love for math in my daughter."--Parent
The best way to acquire skill in math is to practice working problems on the concept, correcting any errors made in the problem-solving process under the eye of an experienced tutor, and repeating these steps until one gains automaticity.
Just like a skilled doctor can identify the source of your pain and its cause, I identify what material is causing you difficulty and then form a plan to get you up to speed. Math is a step-by-step process; by breaking down a problem into its steps, we can discover which specific steps are causing you confusion. The more specifically we break down the problem, the easier it is to find the source of confusion, fix it, and begin to understand it. If a problem takes 10-15 steps to solve, there's often 2-3 steps along the way which you might not understand. I find what those misunderstandings are and we work on perfecting those, so that the process of solving the full problem becomes easier and more natural with practice.
If you are looking to improve your grades, review material over the summer, get ready for your next math class, catch up on what you're missing, prepare for SAT's, and improve your confidence and skill in math, don't hesitate to contact me. You will find a patient guide to help you achieve your goals.
