As a 6th grade math teacher I understand that all students learn at different rates and some students need unconventional ways of getting math to stick. I believe in not only teaching the procedures of math, but also teaching the concepts behind why math works. I use a combination of hands-on approaches, skills practice, memorization, silly rhymes and songs, math investigation, and problem solving. I have a teaching license in both mathematics for grades 7-12 and elementary education. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a 4.0 grade point average and passed the Praxis in the top 15%. I was also nominated as departmental scholar by the School of Mathematical Sciences at UNC during my time as a student there.
I love math almost as much as I love tutoring! As a 6th grade math teacher I understand that all students learn at different rates and some students need unconventional ways of getting math to stick. I believe in not only teaching the procedures of math, but also teaching the
very impressed with her method of teaching my 7th grade granddaughter - will continue using her abilities as long as needed to catch up to grade level in math.
Heather has been helping my daughter with PreCalculus for the past couple of months. She has been very helpful, and able to fit us in to her schedule on short notice. They are currently working on logarithmic functions, and I feel that my daughter is catching on quickly thanks to Heather.
Heather is very professional and has helped our daughter with Geometry. Very nice and easy to talk with. I would recommend her for any age.
Needed last minute help preparing for ACT test, gave some great test taking skills. Relatable, friendly and willing to stay as long as needed.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took Discrete Math at the University of Northern Colorado and ended the course with an A. In addition to taking the class, I also participated in a weekly study group in which I helped other students understand the material.
I am licensed to teach grades K-6 in the state of Colorado.
