My style is to work through problems with you, giving you tips/strategies along the way, all the while being an encouragement to you! I have access to mathematical software, numerous journals, and a library of websites to help you learn and save you time!

Experience:
I have Bachelor's degrees in both chemical engineering and applied mathematics, with nearly straight A success rate. I'm currently working toward my Master's degree in applied mathematics. I have five semesters experience as a TA for undergraduate engineering students (calc 1,2,3 diff eq.), and one semester of tutoring experience when I was in college.

Background:
Since I was in middle school, I've had a love for learning mathematics. A big part of this is because I had several teachers who really inspired me and helped me to get excited about the subject (one was a teacher I had in middle school, the other my calculus AB teacher in high school). I also had a college professor with whom I did some research work, and he is one of the main reasons I was able to have a strong application to graduate school. Part of the reason I want to tutor is so that I can be a part of that process of helping students build confidence in their understanding and abilities, just as others have done for me.

MATLAB

MATLAB

I successfully completed a one-semester course in Matlab programming when I was a freshman in college. Since then, I've used Matlab throughout my 5 years in college and even now in graduate school. I really like how easy it can be (with practice) to create powerful programs in Matlab to help solve mathematical/engineering problems. Specifically, I've used Matlab for numerical programs, curve-fitting, and making 2D and 3D plots.

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra is essentially the art of solving equations and is fundamental in all areas of mathematics. It comes up time and time again, and taking the time to get it down cold pays off in the long run. I have successfully completed algebra 1 and 2 and have used concepts and problems solving skills from these classes in many other more advanced math classes, including graduate-level math classes. I also have some understanding of other areas of math where algebra is useful, such as number theory and group theory.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have completed three semesters of calculus with straight A success rate. I have also been employed as a teaching assistant for these three subjects, and know what it takes to be successful in these classes.
Physics,

Physics

I've completed 3 semesters of introductory physics with straight A success rate. I also helped teach an introductory mechanics physics class when I was a sophomore in college. I'm most qualified to tutor mechanics, but I'm also familiar with concepts and problems in electrostatics and the physics of light.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

In high school, I did very well in a class on precalculus, which is all about understanding various important functions that come up again and again in mathematics and science. I can help you understand (and have fun with) trigonometry, functions, graphing techniques, etc.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I have been a TA for an ordinary differential equations course, so I'm familiar with all the major topics on solving ODEs taught in a college course. I successfully completed (with high marks) a course on ODEs in college and three courses in pdes (two when I was an undergrad; one course in graduate school).
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

I have earned A's in two linear algebra courses in college. One course was more focused on theory and proofs, the other more on application and computations. I have also successfully completed several graduate level math courses which emphasized linear algebra.

I have a strong knowledge of trigonometry, starting from a precalculus class I took in high school. I developed more experience in more advanced math classes and working as a TA (teaching assistant), helping students with calculus 1.

Calm and Understanding Tutor

Douglas B. As a tutor has helped me tremendously in Calculus 2. He has taught me how to break problems down and look at them simply, taking the time to answer all of my questions and relating them back to the topics in question. He helped me achieve an A on my last exam and I couldn’t be more thankful.

Hector, 6 lessons with Douglas

Very Patient and good at explaining topics clearly

Douglass has helped me catch up on material that I didn't understand. He is also great at working online with me using One Note to help me work out problems on either homework or working on a quiz.

Austin, 10 lessons with Douglas

Incredibly knowledgeable and helpful

Went to him last minute and he was very helpful in linear algebra, he explained the problems in simple terms and made it easy to understand. I highly recommend him if you need help in your course.
