About Megan

I have taught a wide range of classes, from reading intervention for students who read far below grade level, to Advanced Placement English. My students value my patience, my ability to explain content in a variety of ways, and my commitment to ensuring that they have the tools they need to succeed. As a reading intervention teacher, I was honored for the percentage of my students who achieved high growth on the Colorado state assessments for 3 years in a row. My students’ growth was due to my consistent use of research-based programs, which allowed me to target areas in which students struggled, such as fluency, comprehension, or vocabulary. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a high school student, and my passion for teaching comes through in my lessons and in my interactions with students.

In addition to being passionate about teaching, I am a voracious reader and writer. It is one of my core beliefs as an educator that our stories both define us and connect us to others. I believe that through teaching the crafts of reading and writing, students can be empowered to make meaning from their own lives. One of my strengths as a teacher is to help students to reflect on their own experiences through literature and writing.

I was a double major in English and French literature at Hamilton College. During my junior year, I studied in Paris, where I lived with a family and signed a contract to speak only French. I went on to complete an honors thesis in French my senior year. The year after I graduated from college, I taught K-12 French at an independent school.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
