About Allan

Hello, my name is Allan, and I have been a 3D modeller, animator, and 2D graphic artist for over 15 years. I started as an AutoCAD draftsman in 1991 and began 3D modelling at Compaq Computer in 1994. In 1999, I learned Maya, and I have used it and/or Photoshop almost every day since then, mainly for user manuals and marketing materials for Compaq & Hewlett-Packard.

In 2004, I taught Maya at the Art Institute of Houston (continuing education) for three semesters. My wife and I have been training in martial arts for eight years and for four years I taught classes at my teacher's school. In this capacity, I had the opportunity to work with students of every age, from very young children to senior citizens.

I have always been a programmer in my spare time, and I have been using the C languages since 1995. In the last six years, I have started using the Unity 3D SDK; I have two titles published for client studios that are available on multiple outlets for both PC/Mac and mobile platforms. In late 2015, I led a team of three to create 'Lord of Rigel' for my client Rhombus Studios, which was picked up for publication by Iceberg Interactive.

If you're interested in learning any of the Adobe products, Maya, programming, or how to use Unity 3D, from the basics to publication, I have something to teach you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have been using the Adobe Suite including Illustrator for fifteen years, using it to create artwork for major clients such as HP and Otterbox.

Adobe Photoshop

I've been using Photoshop professionally for over sixteen years.

Autodesk Maya

I have been employed as a 3D Illustrator for almost fifteen years, mainly for HP user manuals and marketing materials. I began using Alias Power Animator on UNIX systems, and migrated to Maya when it first became available on PCs. I have used it almost every day since then, in conjunction with Adobe PhotoShop.

C++

I have been a hobbyist C programmer for almost twenty years. I started programming in BASIC, and taught myself C later.
Making the transition from the old style of programming to object oriented programming was a struggle for me; but I feel that the fact that I had to make that transition gives me an added perspective as a teacher.
Now, I use OOP principles and techniques on a daily basis, in my work as an indie game developer. I have written a soon-to-be-published game entirely in C++, and I have two code packages for sale on the Unity Asset Store for the past two years, also written in C++.

Computer Gaming

I have published two game titles for clients that are currently available for download on multiple platforms.

'Russian Front' for publisher Hunted Cow Studios (Android, iOS, Steam), and 'The Monolith' for Crucial App Concepts (Android, IOS).

I led a team of three to create the alpha version of Lord of Rigel which is soon to be released by Iceberg Interactive.

Computer Programming

Computer programming has been a serious interest of mine since I first learned BASIC in 1982. Since then, I have taught myself several languages, including AutoLISP (the scripting language of AutoCAD), MEL (Maya), Java, as well as the entire chain of C, C++, & C#.
I have published two titles for client studios available on iTunes, Google, and Steam.
I have been employed full-time as a Unity developer for the past two and a half years.

Graphic Design

I have been employed as a 3D and Graphic Artist for the past fifteen years, using a combination of Maya, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe PhotoShop on a daily basis.
My main experience has been illustrations for manuals, but I have also produced posters, brochures, and marketing materials for companies such as Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Halliburton, and Weatherford.
I have also produced several animated tradeshow presentations, as well as a handful of websites.
