I became a National Merit semifinalist and won multiple writing awards in the national PTA Reflections Contest. Afterwards, I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I served as editor for ABSA's newsletter “The Informer,” and as a news writer for the Gaming Enthusiast.

I have over four years of tutoring experience and I specialize in teaching SAT/ACT Verbal, Reading, and Writing test preparation, along with English and Language Arts to K-12 students. Whether it is preparing for a standardized test, writing a college application essay, or simply needing to improve one’s skills in English, I am more than happy to use the tips and tricks I’ve learned to guide a student to reaching his/her goals. I am happy to provide my own material and lessons, or to coordinate my tutoring with a student’s existing teachers and schoolwork.

I believe it is essential for a tutor to be not only knowledgeable in their subject, but also relatable to their students. Every student is different and I strive to teach each one in a manner that is the most efficient and beneficial for them. Tutoring is an incredibly rewarding experience, and I am always honored to help my students grow and reach their fullest potentials.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been tutoring elementary K-6th students for several months now with great success. Most of my elementary tutoring has been in preparation of the STAAR test, and I can teach all subjects within the test without a problem. I understand younger children may have shorter attention spans, so I always make sure my tutoring for elementary children is fun, to the point, and easy-to-understand. Depending on the child, I have also incorporated games into the learning process to further engage them.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I have tutored elementary math for over four years and all of my students have shown remarkable improvement. I am able to teach every aspect of elementary math, including but not limited to: basic arithmetic, prime numbers, fractions, percentages, graphs, geometry, area/perimeter/volume, and more. I also have extensive experience with the STAAR test and can prepare students for the mathematics required to pass it.
Reading,

Reading

The majority of my students initially came to me for help in reading, and I am happy to say I have helped all of them improve their reading skills significantly. Reading is by far the subject I have the most experience tutoring and my students have ranged in grade from kindergarten to high school. Every student has their own strengths and weaknesses in reading, and I tailor each of my lessons to best fit what a student needs. For my younger students, I teach phonics, basic reading comprehension, vocabulary, punctuation, and how to correctly answer questions based on reading passages. For my older students, I teach more difficult reading comprehension, how to draw inferences from passages, higher-level vocabulary, how to decipher poetry, and how to answer reading questions on timed tests. Many students are initially resistant to reading, and I strive to provide material that is both engaging and helpful for every student, to not only teach them what they need to know to succeed, but also to introduce them to the idea that reading can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

SAT Reading

I have tutored many students in SAT reading and all of them have shown great improvement and an increase in their initial scores. For my own SAT, I scored a 730 in the reading portion and a 2130 in total. I teach students how to better their reading comprehension in a timed environment and which questions/answer choices to look for. I also prepare my students extensively in SAT vocabulary and how they can expect it to be used during the test. Additionally, I provide the materials needed for a student to practice SAT reading questions as much as they need, to ensure their complete preparation and confidence on test day.
SAT Writing,

SAT Writing

I have tutored many students in SAT writing and have successfully raised the writing score for each one. For my own SAT, I scored a 690 in writing and a 2130 total. Even if a student is a naturally good writer, the SAT requires a different writing mindset entirely, which I have studied and teach on to my students. Furthermore, If a student has historically struggled with writing, I am able to reteach them the basics and improve their foundation for writing. For all students, I teach how to choose writing topics that SAT graders want to see, how to correctly and appropriately use higher level vocabulary, and how to make their writing an overall impressive and complete work despite the test's time restrictions.

Writing

I have extensive experience in both academic and creative writing, and have successfully tutored many students on how to improve their own work. In high school, I won awards in the national PTA Reflections creative writing contest, and scored a 5 in both the AP English: Language and Composition and the AP English: Literature and Composition. I later went on to become editor for the ABSA newsletter "The Informer" and became a news writer and editor for Gaming Enthusiast. Additionally, I scored a 690 in writing on my SAT which helped me become a National Merit semifinalist. Writing is a passion of mine, and I am eager to help students improve their own writing skills, whether for school or their own purposes. I teach when and how to correctly use higher level vocabulary, how to organize a paper coherently, and how to make a piece of writing "flow" so that it is pleasing to the reader. Writing well is a fundamental skill that will help a student in every stage of his/her life, and I love helping a student reach their ultimate writing potential.
