My son does the work, but she asks the right questions and points things out to him, so he's always learning and improving. They work mostly on reading comprehension and writing. My son likes Christine very much and says their lessons are "excellent." Christine is very professional, but it's clear to my son that she cares about his progress. They get his work done in about 1/2 the time it takes my son and me when we work together, and learns more. A high school or college student could surely tutor my son for much less money, but Christine brings a tremendous amount of skill and experience to her tutoring. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students.
