Lewis & Clark College (French Studies and Studio Art)
University of Colorado, Boulder (Graduate Coursework)
Hi! I'm Jenn, and I want to be your tutor! I graduated in May of 2013 from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR with BA degrees in French Studies and Studio Art. As an undergrad, I studied for six months in Strasbourg, France, where I lived in a home-stay, not only sharpening my language skills but absorbing the culture as well. Upon completing my studies at Lewis and Clark, I moved to France Where I worked as a teachers' assistant. Because of this experience, not only did I gain experience working with a younger group of children (ages 6 through 11), but I was able to learn a new group of skills with regards to teaching a foreign language. In The fall of 2014, I began my graduate coursework at the University of Colorado at Boulder where I took literature classes and taught introductory French classes. I graduated in May of 2013 with my Master's degree in French Literature and knew that I wanted to find a way to give other students the opportunity to travel, learn and grow internationally (which is what I do now!)
One of my passions in life is sports. I have played competitive volleyball since the age of thirteen, and I played on the varsity team at Lewis and Clark College. Because of my athletic history, I know what it means to have good sportsmanship and to collaborate in order to achieve goals. While I love playing, I also love coaching! I have experience coaching both boys and girls between ages 9 through 14, and I have worked as a co-head coach for a 16's Club volleyball team. In addition, I have completed two seasons as the solo head coach for a 16s and 14s team at a volleyball club here in Colorado!
I love learning, and I want you to have a great learning experience as well! I want to work with you to help you become the best you can be! Hi! I'm Jenn, and I want to be your tutor! Jennifer is the perfect tutor for our teenage daughter who wants to improve her volleyball fundamentals and French conversational skills. Jennifer is intelligent, knowledgeable, friendly, positive, and encouraging. We feel lucky to have found her!
My son was resistant to having a tutor, but Jennifer won him over. After their meeting he said, "She can come back."
Jennifer has a great attitude and is quite focused. She is helping me with my French pronunciation and her help has been specific and spot on! Thanks, Jennifer!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I first began studying the French language 10 years ago, as a freshman in high school. I majored in French Studies at Lewis and Clark College and graduated in 2013. Currently, I am completing my master's degree in French literature at the University of Colorado in Boulder, expecting to graduate in 2016. In 2012, I studied abroad in StrasbOurg, France, where I attended a university and lived in a home-stay. While abroad, not only did my language skills improve, but my understanding of the French culture did as well. In addition, I lived in France for a year before beginning my studies in Colorado. I am more than willing to use my experiences to help you improve your French!!
Volleyball is a passion! I first learned the sport in 3rd grade, at age 9, and I continued to play competitive club volleyball from ages 13 through 18. I am currently approaching the final season of my collegiate career. Though my current position is outside hitter, I have extensive knowledge and practice in every position.
I also have experience coaching. I have coached and lead both camps and teams, using my experience to help younger athletes improve their knowledge of the game, their skills, and their sportsmanship. In my experience, I have had to organize drills and games which focus on specific skills for a range of levels, anywhere from beginner to advanced. I would love to share my passion with you!
