About Mahilet

I am a Colorado School of Mines graduate. I have two bachelor degrees from Mines, Chemical engineering and Chemistry. I am currently working as a Thin Films Process Engineer at Research Electro Optics in Boulder Colorado. I mainly work with optics for laser system assemblies. I have also done research at Mines and got published. My research at the Chemical Engineering department involved measuring viscosity and investigating how shear stress affects the behavior of different Newtonian fluids. These polymers are used to settle algae from water to make bio-fuel. My research in the Chemistry department involved enhancing the catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles and improving the process in which 4-Nitrophenol is reduced in water to make various products, mainly drugs.

I have been tutoring since 2007. I have tutored K-12 and also at a college level. I love tutoring. I am very knowledgeable and patient with students. I live in Boulder but I also spend some time in Denver. I am interested in working with you. Email me if you are interested.

Thank you,

Mahilet H.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

My ACT math scores were about 30 both times I took the ACT.

ACT Science

I have scored well on science ACT exam. I am a chemist with exceptional interest in inorganic chemistry and nano particles.

Algebra 1

I have helped many students including my brother and sister in algebra 1-5X.

Algebra 2

I am an engineer which forces me to deal with numbers and standard mathematical operations daily. I have a deep understanding of math up to linear algebra.

Chemical Engineering

I have a chemical engineering BS from Colorado School of mines. Some of the classes I have take and have done well on as a chemical engineering BS core requirements are chemical engineering design, thermodynamics, chemical engineering thermodynamics, material and energy balance, heat transfer, mass transfer, fluids dynamics, computational physical chemistry, reaction engineering, transport phenomena, process dynamics and control, and engineering economics. I currently work as a thin films process engineer where I get to apply the knowledge base from my undergraduate studies daily. I work with ion beam sputtering systems to produce optics for laser systems. I apply my knowledge on materials, charge density, mass flow, heat transfer, process scale up and down, data analysis skills, and technical problem solving skills daily to be the best engineer my team has.

Chemistry

I have a chemistry bachelors from Colorado School of Mines. I have done well in all my chemistry core classes. My research in the Chemistry department involved enhancing the catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles and improving the process in which 4-Nitrophenol is reduced in water to make various products, mainly drugs. I also have done some graduate work in chemistry involving catalytic reactions. I work as a thin films engineer currently using both my chemistry and materials knowledge. Chemistry is my favorite subject, especially inorganic chemistry and nano chemistry.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Excel for data analysis for the past few years. Currently I work as a process engineer. Part of my day to day task includes historical data analysis and predictive modeling. I work with functions like Vlookup, Hlookup, nested IF function, regression analysis, pivot table and charts, time derivatives, and VBA. I have over 8 years of excel experience and I love teaching others Excel skills.

Oracle

I am currently working as a Optics Process Engineer. We have significant data accumulated over the company's lifetime stored in MySQL and SQL tables. I write and use SQL code to parse information data and do predictive modeling. I also use SQl code to generate reports. I am one of the few engineers who knows how to use SQL on my team so I am often tasked with writing new code and generating reports for my team.

Organic Chemistry

I have a chemistry bachelors from Colorado School of Mines. I have taken 4 organic chemistry classes along with all my chemistry core classes. My research in the Chemistry department involved enhancing the catalytic activity of silver nanoparticles and improving the process in which 4-Nitrophenol is reduced in water to make various products, mainly drugs. I also have done some graduate work in chemistry involving organics as related to catalytic reactions. I work as a thin films engineer currently. Most of the films we make are are cleaned using organic compounds. As the only chemist in my group, I am usually tasked with figuring out how the organic chemical we use react with our process. I apply my organic chemistry knowledge daily.

Prealgebra

I have taken math through differential equation and linear algebra. I work as process engineer currently and one of my day to day task is data validation and analysis. I have a deep understanding of math not just a sheer memorization. My goal is to help my students understand why not just the what. At the end of the day I want my students to be able to tutor me back. Math is fun and even more so when one understands it. My goal would be to help my students see that.

Excellent communicator

My student had other Tutors last semester that weren't able to help my student understand material in my students learning style. Mahilet in one session was able to communicate the material. My student from one session has so much confidence. This is an important 2nd semester-- Junior in High School. Thank you Mahilet!!
